Armyguy, Now that I look back, my symptoms of MVP were vague at the time before I was diagnosed. Now that you have a diagnosis, hopefully you can get back to life. You so deserve it. PM me anytime. I'd like to know how they finally figured it out. I'm living proof that you can live a productive life. I'm happy that you got some answers and that you pursued the issue. You are going to be okay. Take care.
Hello! Glad to learn what the issue is with your heart.
Are you going to need a valve replacement, or is it much less serious? I have one that was found by live ultrasound decades ago, and I have no symptoms or pain, and the cardiologists have said I may have had it for many years and not to worry. Said I'll probably die with it, not because of it, and if the worst were to come, the valve can be replaced.
Hope that was the news you received too!
I have the very same thing , and my cardiologist said the same I have had it for years , and will likely die with it , and if it does cause any problems I can have a new valve good luck Jacqui
Thanks you all, i am lost because the cardiologist missed it 5 times at veterans hospital but the emergency doctor heard it. Complete BS. But thank you everyone!!!!
Sometimes the mitro valve prolapse can be very "discrete" and not make a sound....other times you can hear mine "click" by putting an ear to my chest. Mine was found by a fluke, not when a doctor was looking for it.
I had thorough physicals every year when I worked in the health care field. Not until an earache was starting and I decided to go to the corner walk in-clinic for antibiotics did anyone find mine. The young new physician took his stethoscope away from my chest and insisted I have an ekg NOW!
I calmed him down, told him I worked in the hospital, and I knew the cardiologist down the street and if he gave me the antibiotics for my earache, I would go directly there. Just thought he was "over eager" and there was nothing to find.
I actually did walk into the cardiologist office, he was leaving for the day, but said he would stay and do the ultrasound himself gratis. (I had
done a favor for him once) And there it was, a mitro valve prolapse as big as life, even regurgitating blood a bit.
Occasionally now when a doctor uses the stethoscope on my chest, I actually ask if he/she"heard it". And sometimes the response is, "Heard what?"
Guess if even its a specialist, but doesn't know what he/she should be looking for, sometimes he/she doesn't find it. So sorry you had multiple visits to the VA.
There is alot of research on MVP and anxiety !!
