Starting new job, due to anxiety my last job ask me to leave. I start new job Monday only 12 month contract but fear that they will get rid of me.

Can an employer legally ask you to leave a job because of this?

The fear is your anxiety talking. Can you use some coping skills or distractions to help you get to the first day? Try just taking it one day at a time, as they say.

Started my job taking one job at a time, people don't talk to me find very strange and lonely. I've tried talking but no one has time to listen

Hi Doighnut1967, Contract work is a lonely job unfortunately because the employees there, think of us as a visitor. I also did contract work at one time, by choice. I liked the idea of moving around but with that comes feeling alienated. Having anxiety, that worked for me. I put in my hours for the day, ate lunch either in my car or at a table in the corner with a good book. Didn't have to interact with anyone or hear all the gossip going around. I only had one person to please and that was my boss. When on contract there was always the satisfaction of my accomplishments in doing the best that I could. I was a "fill in" for vacation, sick leaves, projects etc. Try to concentrate more on the job and not the social part of working. Once that idea is set, you will be okay. It's nothing against you. Oh, thanks getting back to me but I know that I want to be full time employment now with a friendly team, I like talking to people. My life a little boring at the moment very unsettled due to my anxiety issues, my mum who I could talk to not there for me, my children that have grown up doing own things, husband works nights. My anxiety messing with life at moment.

Doighnut1967, we do things that work for us at certain times of our lives. I always felt by doing contract work, I would know when the right position came along. And that's what happened. Eventually, I joined a company that I loved working for and that my boss was willing to pay the agency to release me. I was there 11 years. It sounds like you are ready to make a commitment to one company which will give you all the benefits you are looking for, including social. My best to you. x
