Hi kimbers,

Ive been on these bad boys for 6 months and yes they do work. they have horrible side effects at first eg increased heart rate and anxiety, i had to develop a routine to cope with the twitching and not being able to relax or focus.

please give them a chance as they do work, if you can just remember how you feel now, will pass, the side effects do lessen then go away.

i found that taking them in the morning works best. they kick in after about 5 hrs, thats when i would feel my worst but i persevered and am now on the mend xxx

good luck hun, any concerns PM me and ill do what i can to help you

A near generic for USA - and international - Prozac, a generic for UK and French Surlife. All much the same. Sertraline is somewhat better than the older generation anti-depressants, which have a disadvantage of drowsiness/apathy. The newer generation, however - and depending on one's own make-up - can make one feel anxious or a bit manic. Hardly a desired effect. Give some time. If does harm, simply discontinue and continue new approach. I have discontinued all, and forge/force ahead!

I prefer prozac

I have been taking sertraline for 3 days in the morning and feel much better mentally and more myself but am having awful chest pain, pains in my arm and hands. I dont feel anxious but my heart is still tight. I had my heart rate and blood pressure checked in hospital and it was high but they said it was because I was in A & E and they would expect it but am now worried I have high blood pressure.

Do you think I should stop taking the sertraline? worried I am going to have a heart attack!!

Am trying not to focus on it and tell myself they are just that side affects. Only day two so lets see

I am on sertraline and had no side effects. I wonder if stress is causing your BP to rise. May be worth talking to your GP to see if you can try something else

Hi I have been taking 150mg a day of sertroline for past few years, I think they are really good and they definitely help. I have had no serious side effects but I have noticed if I forget to take them for more than a day or two I start feeling a bit dizzy and spaced out. So make sure you take them regularly as prescribed.

14 years on 20 mg prozac and i switched to Sertraline 50mg 3 weeks ago, amazing ! Side effects minimal, and i simply feel less able to panic. Prozac used to perk me up , but the anxiety was always present.

I have been taking 20mg of Sertraline for 4 days but want to stop taking it as feeling worse - can I just stop? I can going to try St Johns Wort herbal remedy - so I have to wait for the sertraline out of my system before I start taking it and how long do you think this will take? Thanks for you help with this x

in reply toDevongirl31

Hi Devongirl

I dont no how long these meds take to come out your system , but I would see your GP

You dont have to take the meds if you dont want to , especially if they are not helping , but they are the best ones to give you this advice

If you dont feel like asking the GP , ask in the chemist , as they are very good as well

Let us no how you go on

Love

Thanks whywhy found some information on the web and it says that if you are taking less than 50mg for 4 days you can just stop - feeling alot more positive today - need to make some changes in my life and put things in place for me to get better - I can see this has been building up for about a year and I have kept saying to my husband and kids that things need to change or I am going to be ill but nothing ever changes for long - but hopefully now they can see that things have to change. I have also got to help myself and not try and control everyones happiness, and just look after myself a bit more - going to book a nice massage for next week and have written down everything I am going to do to get better. Going for a bowel investigation soon and hope it is just IBS caused by this anxiety - Thanks for you comments they really make a difference x

in reply toDevongirl31

You sound really positive here & its good to set goals , I do believe it helps us to move forward

Good for you as well booking that massage , thats something I would love to do , let us no what it was like :)

Try not to worry about the bowel investigation , I no its easier said than done , but I had one & was worried just like you , but it was IBS , I think alot that suffer with anxiety seem to have IBS , let us now how you go on , if you ask when you are there is everything looks ok , they did tell me yes , even though I no they send a report to your GP , but while you are waiting for that report to get there , it did help me hearing them sat , everything looks fine , I didnt worry then while i was waiting
