This is the drug working on the receptor sites

Please try and carry on with the medication as

it is very useful for anxiety

If you miss a dose you may well feel woozy this is serotonin discontinuation syndrome

Due to venlefaxine having a short half life just take the medication at the same time

If you get s/effects just take it at night instead of the morning you will

Be asleep for them then

Thank you for your reply.I only took the first one yesterday morning and within 5 hrs I felt terribly sick, headache, pain in legs.went to bed early with a bucket at side of bed.Never slept a wink, even though I took a zopiclone, feel absolutely awful, cant rest, sick, shaking, crying etc.I have been weaning off mirtazapine and wonder if it's that.Just don't know where to turn,I live alone,I'm 68 yrs old a widow and I'm so frightened!! Haven't taken Venlafaxine this morning,I daren't.please help if you can.

Thank you. X

Emby - I strongly suggest you dial 111 (the "new" NHS Direct) and talk to a medical professional. I've never taken venlafaxine, but know people who have, but this does seem a very extreme reaction to one dose. Please try to talk to a professional!

Thank you Rose, very kind of you to respond. Have just been to walk in centre, doc told me to carry on for another week, but to take it at night rather than in a morning. Don't know if I can face another day, never mind a week!!! I feel so dreadfully sick,I just don't know what to do with myself. The worst thing is I suffer from constant nausea anyway, apparently caused by acute anxiety, but this is now much worse than it's ever been. Thanks again for your reply.xx

I am 67 years old and suffered from panic and anxiety most of my life. I started taking Effexor when I was 57. It changed my life. In the beginning I to was so afraid to take any medications that I had symptoms also. Please stick with it. Take it at night before bedtime. Take it the same time each day, that is very important. It dosent stay in your system more than 24 hours. I think your symptoms are from weaning off mirtazapine and not the effexor. Give it more time. Have faith. I will keep you in my prayers. Good luck and remember you are not alone HE is with you always.

Am on 300mg venlaflaxin and it was very hard at first!!! But, I persevered and it is the best thing that has happened to me!! Am able to function fairly normally, along with courses run by local Mental Health! In a much better place now! Please try for another week, then see how you feel.
