Trouble Sleeping?

Does anyone else experience sleep avoidance, or bouts of insomnia during stressful times? I operate so much more stable when I get good sleep, and consistent sleep... but in times of stress or triggering episodes I just cannot sleep.

I used to get sleeping pills from my partner, but looking back I think it was just a method to sedate me so I wouldn't be a bother at night...and now that I'm alone it's a real crap shoot if I can even fall asleep. What are some healthy methods for sleep that don't require me to take sedatives or melatonin every night? They never end up being restful and if anything stress me out more waking up every two hours and trying to fall back asleep.

Hi I have various things which sometimes help.

7/11 breathing - 7 in / 11 out breathing slowly.

Vagas nerve exercises - stroking or tapping places on your face and neck. The aim is to yawn. Once you yawn you are relaxed.

Paul McKenna has many exercises to induce sleep.

I read his book on how to sleep many years ago. I use one in particular when I remember. There is lots on YouTube to chose what best suits you.

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses! The Vagas nerve sounds interesting, I'll definitely explore all of these.

Sukie Baxter has some simple exercises on the vagus nerve. Also I've been looking into havening techniques and chosen some which are easy to do.Havening can also help with ptsd apparently.

I stroke my arms too and rub my hands together - as explained its the opposite of "wringing " your hands!

Not what you're looking for?
