Holiday cheer?

Nothing_but_books profile image

What has gotten you through the holidays when you're alone, crippled by pain, and struggling with mental health?

I have a long list of what I can't do anymore that I'd like to trade-up from.

Store bought eggnog - yuck.

Packaged cookies - nope.

🎄 ❄️ ⛄ 🎅 😞

I still have my music. Here's one:

I was just at the store yesterday looking for eggnog! lol They didn’t have any😢

I bought eggnog from the store last month and drank it all before I got to the checkout. so that will keep me until 2025

Yes I paid for it

The eggnog was a combination of equal parts satisfaction and disappointment

I have never had eggnog Is it anything like the Dutch Advocaat?

Cheers, Midori

I had to look up Dutch Advocaat, never heard of it. No, I think they're different. Eggnog is a cold drink made by blending eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla. Lots of people like adding alcohol too. 🥛

So, similar, but different! Thanks for the info, I keep confusing them We make a drink with Advocaat called a Snowball, Advocaat, a dash of lime or lemon juice then either tonic water or lemonade.

And, a cherry on a stick!

Cheers, Midori

Sounds good! Lemon / lime juice make everything better.

What do you do? The same as you do when it's not the holidays; if you are in so much pain and distress, make sure you have enough food, and expect to spend the next few days under the duvet. I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you.

If only a duvet helped. The pain has been with me for decades.

Im sorry. My fibromyalgia almost disappeared with the start of the compression fractures in my spine. Som as L Ron Hubbard used to say "If someone has a problem, give them another one (a worse one)". I don't know if my FM pain would return if I didn't have compression fracture pain. I don't know what the answer is to your problem but the question I sometimes ask myself is "Could I run if there was a threat of some kind - earthquake or terrorist attack?" Yesterday I had some pain after my two exercise classes (gentle exercises) and then I went to visit my partner in the care home and took him to the dentist and then to the barbers. Lifting that awful wheelchair in and out of my car was nigh impossible, and the kindness of strangers was angelic, but there were occasions when I had to do it. So today I have been suffering. I shouldn't do things like that but I didn't think the wheelchair would be so heavy or so awkward. I am so grateful for those hunky angels who approached me.

I've had that experience myself... in an emergency my body allowed me to do things I know darn well I can't do. Of course I pay for it later on.

You're a fan of Ron Hubbard? Have you read his novella "Fear?" (From pre-Scientology.) I recommend it. Terrific!

No, I didn't know a about that novella. Battlefield Earth wasn't great.

Agreed. It was awful. Bloated trash.

When I am in pain due to back damage/spine damage/ I have hot bath but it's hard to get in as lower back ****. Then afterwards I listen to music, Elvis Presley is my favourite. I am seeing chiropractor on how to manage pain. I do find listening to music helps me though
