anxiety spiral

hi all, I could not sit in the flight yesterday for my work trip and had to get off as I had nausea, felt sweaty and was just so anxious to go on the trip because of my anxiety. I have flown thousands of times so this was not about the flight but the anxiety associated with leaving as I am just a mess. For the past month and a half I have NOT slept through the night and wake up all night almost every 1-2 hours. I was just started on Lexapro but I seem to be sensitive so had side effects like night sweats, increased anxiety, jittery, pacing and I can’t even focus on work. I had to reduce my dose to 2.5 mg and even then I have some side effects. Have any of you dealt with this???? Does the spiral go away? I feel so helpless and scared

I am sorry you are going through this. Have you talked to your doctor? You probably have, but maybe talk to them again. You should not have to suffer like this.

Because you are on Lexapro, I will assume you have seen a medical doctor or at least a therapist who works with a doctor who can prescribe meds. But you don’t give any indication of what is causing your anxiety and depression. Maybe you need a different med? Maybe more therapy? Therapy can take time and sometimes it takes time to find the right medication. One thing that really helped me was The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Edmund Bourne and some Xanax when my anxiety was sky high. You just don’t want to get dependent on Xanax, but it can be very helpful in the short term. Give yourself time to feel better.

Hi ... Based on my experience with Lexapro, it usually takes a good 6-8 weeks' time to show its effect. for the first 1-2 weeks you will see a spiked anxiety, increase in sweating, restlessness and decreased appetite. but they all will go away with time and you will be benefitted with the med. Good luck to you
