I started taking 25mg Sertraline for anxiety, I went through lots of side effects, after 2 weeks I improved so moved up to 50mg. Gradually started to feel much better more like my usual self, left with a very dry mouth which I could cope with as I was feeling better.
I also suffer with IBS-D and this medication has made a big difference.
However after approximately 5-6 weeks I started to have sore throat plus a feeling of a lump in my throat and the glands under my jaw feel slightly swollen and sensitive. All on the left side. I have also been getting small white ulcers on my tongue, as one goes another usually pops up! I had been burping more, generally more wind!
The medicine leaflet does say there can be these side effects although uncommon, I was hoping it would go away with time as I had been feeling so much better and didn’t relish the thought of going through the process of coming off sertraline and trying something else, but after 4 weeks I went to my GP.
I had a range of blood tests all of which came back normal.
My GP is trying me with 30mg Lansoprazole twice a day and a steroid nasal spray for 2 weeks. I am at the end of the first week, possibly a slight improvement, the lump feeling when I swallow is not so noticeable and tongue ulcers have so far settled. However the sensitive and slightly swollen feeling under the left side of jaw / neck remains and the back of my throat feels sore on the left side only.
This is of course now making me anxious again so wondered if anyone else suffered this as a side effect and if so did you need to gradually come off Sertraline and try something else? I dread having to go through all the side effects again at the start of new medication.
Thank you for reading this.
