I have heard that the Scandinavian countries have a way of life that builds on comfort and wellbeing. There countries are in an area of the world that has little sun during winter. So they hold close to family and friends and have social interaction and create warm environments in their homes that celebrate these dark times with the joy of closeness and sharing. They get outside and enjoy exercise whatever the weather. They have learned to embrace what we have a hard time accepting. Their society and culture is based on creating peaceful relaxing places in their homes. It’s called hygge and there are books about this practice.

Thank you for sharing this. The part that really resonated with me was not breaking the circle of trust. It reminded me of what life was like when I was growing up here in the UK, the days when you could go out and leave your door unlocked , when kids could play safely outdoors.I'm not saying it's all bad, and there are still a lot of wonderful people around, but where I live , there's very little sense of community. I try to be kind and courteous to everyone- it's how I was brought up- and little things like a friendly smile and thank you to a shop assistant are so important. Costs nothing, but worth much🤗

I think this is so true and it certainly backs up what a close friend in Norway has told me about her country. Sandi Torsvig has a wonderful series called “Hygge” available as podcasts on BBC Sounds. My friend has a simple log cabin in the mountains, no electricity or running water but just stunning scenery and simplicity of life - I would so love to visit her!
