I will be going into C.B.T, but i'm hesitating as i've not done it before but also intriguedby it.

I'm curious on your views on it, Did it help?, Did it not help? Biggest misconceptions about it? - I'd appreciate it!

(Also i know that everyone is different and what works for another might not work for the other)

Hi Shanm2, go into everything you try with an open mind. It's well worth it.

It may be just what you need to open the door of your mind. My best as always :) xx

Your advice and words are always so helpful and insightful I, thank you for your replies 😊

I find that CBT to be a powerful tool. It helps me see alternative ways of thinking about things. Why did this happen? Our minds go to the worst possible thing. But...is there a different way to view it? Maybe it didn't happen the way you thought. It's opened my mind to how we really don't know what happened the way it did. How can we? Powerful stuff.

The best advice to give you is to feel comfortable with your counselor. Don't be afraid to change if you don't make the connection. I have had positive experiences with CBT and you can to good luck to you

That is great advice! I have had experiences where i should of asked for a different counselor out of not being comfortable with them. The reminder is helpful! Thank you for you reply, I'm glad you had positive experiences with CBT and best wishes to you also :)

Good luck

Hello, CBT is a great way to retrain the brain into responding differently. Especially during high stress situations. Thanks to neuroplasticity. Good luck my friend, I'm sure you're going to benefit a great deal.

I tried it for a little bit. Personally, for me, it was a lot to digest mentally. There are techniques and processes to start to use to change your way of thinking, but it takes some work and effort. I hope it goes well for you. Good luck!

I can relate with what you've said here, i feel that it may take alot mentally and the idea can be heavy. But therapy isn't always easy and it does certainly take alot of work and effort but its the ending result that could be life changing. Thank you for your reply :)

Since we are on the subject.

What are your guys/gals favorite book(s) to read on CBT?

(preferably for anxiety/depression or GAD/Worry)

in reply to AnxiousSilver

Hi, my friend.😊 I have a DBT one called "The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Workbook for Anxiety: Breaking Free from Worry, Panic, PTSD, and Other Anxiety Symptoms. It's a New Harbinger Self-Help Workbook.

I find workbooks the best because I'm actively working through exercises instead of just passively reading.

Hope you have a good day. It's actually sunny over here today!

I'm glad you had good experiences with it and that it helped :) Was CBT the best type of therapy so far? Or has others been helpful for other things?

Thank you for your response also

CBT improved the quality of my life. Not only did it help me overcome my anxiety (albeit temporarily), but it helped me recognize distortions in my thinking and gain a sense of confidence in myself that had been lacking for years.

Don't be nervous. I really recommend it.

I'm so happy for you that it improved your quality of life, i dont often hear that and i'm glad it helped with the anxiety side of things. The recognising distortions of thinking and gaining confidence spoke volumes to me as these are good goals to work towards and the thing is - or what has be proven to me through other therapies - is that i always thought i knew the answers or at least knew the way my brain worked but i didn't and through that i had learned more and more about myself or my mind.

Thank you for your reply, it has got me thinking today! (I'll try not to be nervous) wishing all the best to you! :)

I'm glad that it has helped and i'm not familiar with IOP? I'm sorry to hear that your struggle with the anxiety i know personally how this can affect daily life but its good that you have the tools in place and that the lessons you learn has also helped. Sometimes we can only take one day at a time or more one hour at a time when it comes to anxiety. I hope you have better days ahead and it eases a little :) I'm wishing all the best, Stay strong, you've got this!

Hey RemySue, i'm so happy to know that it has worked for you but i also like that you included that it has been exhausting at times, because that can often be the reality of it, but the ending result as you say, saved your life and i hold onto the hope that it will have similar affect on me. Wishing you all the best and hope you are well :)
