I take Lex more for my severe GAD (aka anxiety) but I'm sure that my depression swings would be worse without it.

Lexapro is usually the "posterchild pill" that most psychs/docs prescribe first for depression and anxiety because it does help to cover a lot of things.

Try to be patient with it if you to indeed give it a try, and be honest with your doc/psych on how you are feeling on your next visit, so they can adjust the dosage accordingly to help fit your needs. :)

Thanks for your reply. I have been on other meds that didn't seem to work for me. My NP suggested trying it in place of Effexor which I don't believe is helping either.

I've been on Lexapro for the past 20 plus years and it really helps! The only problem I've had is that I've become dependent on it (I can't go down in dose without getting severely depressed). But that might be because I've been on it for so long.

Thank you for your reply. Would you mind sharing the dosage? My NP is starting at 5mg while I'm tapering off Effexor, then increasing to 10mg.

You're welcome. 20mg

I started out on it when I was around maybe 13 years old. I know Zoloft didn't work for me It just made me feel numb and like I was stuck in a fog. But Lexapro worked much different and I wish I could tell you how many milligrams it was. But I use that and Klonopin at 0.5 mg. And in my experience it really helped a lot. And I was on it for I would say maybe about 10 or 12 years and then eventually I got off. My anxiety went into remission and of course my depression went away because I was getting out there in the world. Like most things it takes time to get introduced into your body for you to notice if it's working or not. So I hope all goes well with you.

Thank you for your reply. I'm glad you are well enough to stop medication. I will see what happens this time...

I'm not. I am no longer on antidepressants due to being treatment resistant to them after being on them for decades. Glad to be off meds!! My treatment of choice is TMS which I have had success with. No more drugs or the side effects that go with them!! Yea!!

I am so happy for you! Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover TMS treatments. I think I will check out options for payments that you mentioned earlier. Thank you!

Keep me posted! It really is worth a try. It literally saved my life at one point.

I'm on 10mg. It's helped a ton. Added bonus, it makes me want to clean.

Thank you. I'm hoping it will work but as we know, everyone is different.

Please be aware that getting off of Effexor will take time and patience. It is one of the more difficult antidepressants to get off of. You’ll have to give the Lexapro more time to see if it actually works. For me it did not help with depression.

Thanks for your reply. That is what the NP said, guess that's why she wants me off of it now before I've been on it longer. I'm hopeful the Lexapro will work, but many have been saying it didn't work for them, it has worked for a few though.
