Any motivational tips on getting up and out into the world as someone who suffers from depression?
Sometimes you have to force yourself a little but you can make it less painful. I have been into James Clear's Atomic tasks which emphasizes small steps... even atomic steps but with consistency. Sit outside on your step or balcony... whatever you have but do it daily. Consistency is the key. That's it for as long as you want.
Then maybe walk the block or go to a park. That simple smile you get from another walker can lift your mood a little. In fact smiling back has a chemical dopamine affect. No conversation necessary.
Then maybe you go to a coffee shop and soak it in. Or a book store. Some place where you can linger. Maybe you talk to someone, maybe you chat with the person taking your order. Maybe you don't. Totally fine.
Just try to get out for a short walk. Baby steps. Do you have a local drop in yoga studio. I found signing up for a class was so helpful. Many people in the class come alone. No judgement and you are moving stretching and relaxing. Practicing deep breathing in the class. It took me an entire year to get up the courage to sign up but one day I contacted the owner, explained my anxiety and decided to just give it a try. Now 2.5 months later I’m still going once per week. It is helpful just to get outside the house. 🙏🙏❤️❤️
That quote in itself was very motivational! Thank you!!
