What is in the shot that mental institutions give you to calm down and go to sleep?

I have a question for those of you who have been institutionalized. What is in the shot they give you to calm down and go to sleep when you act up? I have had severe insomnia that triggered a bipolar mania episode I'm calmer now and still cant sleep. I tried doing it the natural way, over the counter medicine and even prescribed sleeping pills (trazodone) and nothing is working. I'm getting desperate
