How do you know the difference between "just a dream" and maybe something else? Three yrs ago I was very sick. Near death & they tell me its a miracle I survived. I had an extremely high fever and spent most of my time in hospital sleeping. I would have a recurring dream that shook me so bad that the nurses told my daughter that as I would drift off I would chant "No dreams, no dreams, no dreams."
The dreams were so disturbing that it took me 2 yrs to get over them. I still remember them but they don't haunt me like they used to. I went to a therapist to help me get over the ordeal of my illness. When I told him about the dreams he brushed them off as delirium from the fever. I asked him why can't we talk about them anyway. After all I was upset by them no matter what caused them. He again brushed them off as insignificant. I no longer see this therapist. I feel we should have talked about them. Shouldn't we talk about whatever is bothering me? I still feel that there was something more to these dreams than just a fevered brain. Any thoughts?

I’m glad you got a new therapist. Downplaying a persons concerns is , to me, very unprofessional. How is the new therapist?Even though bad dreams can be caused by high fever, sometimes they can uncover long-standing emotional trauma. The fact that the dreams are still so disturbing to you, they should be addressed, not ignored. Hopefully, you will find that nothing serious is happening and the dreams are nothing but fever induced dreams.❤️🏄♀️
I have terrible dreams Every night and have for many years. I can't shake them. Terrifying dreams sometimes with sleep paralysis. My doctor downplays them too. He thought it could be one of my meds but after eliminating those in question I still had them. He just calls it up to a symptom of my anxiety and depression bit I don't think he understands ho wes intrusive they are. Good luck!
If you ask me a question about my job, the work that I do & I don't know, the correct answer is "I don't know but I will find out. Where can I reach you?" I'm just a little sick of the medical profession, check that, doctors who cannot admit that they don't know everything. MD does NOT mean medical deity. We won't think less of them for not knowing something. We will think more of them for admitting they don't know but are willing to find out for us.
