The child is born with a Self but not with an ego. As he becomes more and more social and related, ego develops. This ego is just on your periphery where you are related with others and Self is the center. The child is born with a Self, but unaware. He is a Self, but he is not conscious of the Self. The child first becomes aware of his mother. Then, reflectively, he becomes aware of himself. First he becomes aware of objects around him. Then, by and by, he begins to feel that he is separate. This feeling of separation gives the feeling of ego, and because the child first becomes aware of the ego, ego becomes a covering on the Self. The Self is irrelevant for the society; your periphery is meaningful. And there are many problems. The ego can be taught and the ego can be made docile and the ego can be forced to be obedient. The ego can be made to adjust, but not the Self. The Self cannot be taught, the Self cannot be forced. The Self is intrinsically rebellious, individual. It cannot be made a part of society. Society needs you as an Ego.
Happiness is threatening and misery is safe for the ego. Ego can exist only in misery and through misery. When you are in anger, in passion, violent, aggressive; you feel a crystallized ego within you. Whenever you are in love, in compassion, it is not there. That's why we cannot love, because with the ego, love is impossible. That's why we go on talking so much about love, but we never are in love. And whatsoever we call love is more or less sex, it is not love; because you cannot lose your ego, and love cannot exist unless the ego has disappeared. Love, meditation, godliness, they all require one thing, the ego must not be there.

Thats a phenomenal quote in such poetic words...We are so unaware that we actually cling to the ego. Cling to our own misery and society helps it to grow bigger from a young age. Great post. Thanks for posting☯️👍🙂🙏

Happiness, joy, love they all exist, surrounding us but ego will stop them from blossoming. As always you got the gist 🤗🌈🙏
Thank you Gentlespirit. Hope you have a beautiful day ahead 🌈🌻🙏
Wayne Dyer describes ego like this: “Two people have been living in you all of your life. One is the ego, garrulous, demanding, hysterical, calculating; the other is the hidden spiritual being, whose still voice of wisdom you have only rarely heard or attended to.” He refers to this hidden spiritual being as our wise guide. (The Ego Illusion, Blog post).

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on ego according to Wayne Dyer. It’s one way to look at ego. I’m more enlightened with Osho teaching about self awareness than others. There are no two people living inside one, there’s always only one that is Self, individuality, born with it. If we can live authentically with who we are, we can be free from suffering. Ego is a persona people give themselves because of their lack of self realization and/or manufactured by society, religious groups...Have a beautiful day ahead 🌈🌻🙏

That's a good point. I am still trying to figure out how to think about Ego and Self, having been rather fragmented and I daresay broken for some time now. I haven't read a great deal of Osho's philosophy, but I will now! 🦊

Wow....There is lot to think about here! I'm going to check out Osho's writings. It reminds me a little of Buddhist philosophy. I like very young children because they don't seem to have developed an ego as yet and are filled with joy and delight by the world: nature, animals, etc.
As Eastern way of living, meditation brings self awareness to our basics. Self is our center, we are born with joy. Osho teaching is all about bringing out that inner child through laughters. He embraced ☮️, joy, love, beauty of our universe. I’m estatic you look into his teaching. Have a beautiful day penguins123 🌈🌻🙏
