The Straw that Broke the Camel’s Back

We expect too much from people. For example, people say one shouldn’t look down on themselves; however, one is considered conceited if they are proud of who they are and where they are at. So, it doesn’t really matter what one believes about themselves because ultimately someone will be dissatisfied with how one views themselves one way or another. It goes to prove how discontent people are with each other and themselves. We are constantly fighting our catch 22’s because the moment we feel confident about one thing we feel uncertain about something else. We are walking contradictions because we are fighting to accept everything we aren’t while pulling away from everything we are.

I say that if one could love themselves where they are at, then they have a potential to love themselves to who they wish to become. Improvement is always good, one should never stop striving for that, but they should also be proud of who they are now and not phane false humility. I once heard a quote from the movie Felicity which said, “Tis’ never a good thing to run towards something if you’re running away from something else.” This has legitimately become one of my life mottos for everything because it pertains to everything important.

Point is, you can’t chase after who you want to become if you are running away from who you are now. Accept who you are, love who you are, and learn to grow with it. Be proud of your talents. If you’re an artist, be proud of your work. If you’re a cook, and a good one, then be proud of that! Take pride in the things you’re good at and be humble when someone teaches you how to improve. A huge misconception is that “conceited” equals “pride” which couldn’t be further from the truth. Conceited is when one is not willing to admit someone might be better, or they are not willing to admit when they are wrong. It’s good to be proud of your talents, your passions, yourself and how much you’ve accomplished. Use it to inspire others, recognize your strengths and encourage the strengths of others. Stop degrading yourself and others. Be proud of them and yourself for once. Find peace, find love, and don’t be afraid to accept a good thing. Prove to others you are worthy of love and prove to others they are too. Maybe if we accomplished this, we could change the world from the inside out. Don’t be the straw that broke the camel’s back, be the saddle which gave it a reason to journey the vast wilderness.
