Irrational fears

Today, while I was walking my dog, I had to rush home because I was having the most irrational fears - which turned into panic attack warning signs.

The weirdest stuff... like “what if I loose my vision and can’t find my way home” , “I’m going to loose control and not be able to take care of me or my dog while I’m like that”.

So instead of trying to use my coping tools to work through the invasive thoughts and panic that was coming on, I decided to turn around and literally almost run home. 🙄

Then, Ofcourse me NOT facing my fears and just going home spiraled into a depression.

I know I’m not a line on this! I just want to know if there’s something y’all see that I could have done better in this situation. 🙏🏼

I think we've all been there arym. A fearful thought hits and then the "what ifs" come into play. I think your having coping skills could have been used but the fact that you were also responsible for your dog made you take the quicker action and that was running home.

I'm assuming the anxiety quieted down once you got home. Unfortunately, you felt this as a failure and depression took over. It was not a failure arym...anytime we go out whether we complete the task or not, it's a win. Only another person with anxiety could appreciate what it takes to take those steps forward. Don't be hard on yourself. Work a little on your coping

skills each day and you will be ready the next time anxiety throws you a curve ball.

It's your life and you are not going to have anxiety tell you lie and make you believe it.

You have the power to delete that thought just as fast as it overcame you. You do it by

starting your breathing. Breathing properly will lower the adrenaline and will actually give you the resources you need to go forward. (dog and all lol)

You did good my friend... :) xx

You did the best you could in that situation. Never look back and see it as a failure. See it as a learning opportunity.

Next time that happens, Stop, where ever you are and rationalize your thoughts, ask questions of your fears. Put them on the spot. Stop them in their tracks. Make them out to be the imposters they are.

Am I really going to go bind? Right this very minute, for no reason? Nothing wrong with my eyes, no previous illness? Just struck blind for no reason?

See what I mean? The more questions you ask, the more you will realize how silly it sounds. The likely hood of you being struck blind at that very moment for no reason is very unlikely.

Question your thoughts and stop them. Take each scenario your brain thinks up and push back with facts.

Be Well.
