can I overcome anxiety by learning psychology?
tpenguin, you can overcome anxiety by learning psychology. My suggestion would be
to learn all you can about Anxiety first. The mechanics of the Mind/Body Connection is a
start. (found on YouTube) My "go to" has always been YouTube. You can learn about
mental health issues through video which I found easier to understand.
A book that is my foundation for success has been Dr. Claire Weekes' book on "Hope & Help for Your Nerves". Great explanation as well as help in overcoming anxiety through Acceptance.
Once you are comfortable in knowing Anxiety in and out, you can turn to psychology in finding ways to change your cognitive way of thinking. Basically, reprogramming your mind.
We are here to support you through your step by step learning. xx
So I don't need to read about books like the psychologist or psychiatrist do at the first?Actually I was wondering what they read from the beginning.
tpenguin, as you can see, you've gotten some good suggestions from others on the forum who have found help in different ways. We are not doctors or therapists and can only go by our own successes with anxiety. I'm more into medical books and like to know how the mind and body function before I look for psychological methods.
And for me, that worked. I have studied the different way to use tools that work for me.
Basically, I use Meditations of all sorts as well as breathing.
It would be best to find the answers you are looking for from a qualified therapist or psychiatrist to help put you on the right path.

Yes and no.It will help you to understand what you’re going through and provide you with coping strategies.
But things are usually more complicated and we may need someone else’s perspective of things - someone who has more distance from the issues can see better.
But self-education is a good place to start!
Listen to Dr Wayne W Dyer, he will teach you how to think and the psychology of controlling your life. Hayhouse online for his programs, youtube have his videos also.
The best book to start with imo is Families and How to Survive them by John Cleese and Robin Skinner
Too many good ones. I'm Okay, You're Okay by Victor Frankl is pretty intense. I agree with Hayhouse publishing being good.
I think the insights of a good therapist might be vital. He/she will see things in you that are in your blind spot.
I recommend Feeling Good by Dr. Burns, Hold Me Tight by Dr. Johnson, Daring Greatly by Dr. Brown, and The Body Keeps Score by Dr. Van Der Kolk.
(Respectively: depression, attachment with your significant other, shame resilience, childhood trauma)
