Does anyone know of an online support group for an 11 year old who is struggling with anxiety and depression?

Thanks so much but I think what would help is talking to other kids. Thank you for the offer though!

Hello there! As someone who had similar challenges in middle school I will say the support isn’t there. Whether with your peers or otherwise mental health in middle school I feel isn’t tapped on. Kids that age I also feel are overlooked, as those who can’t comprehend or understand real anxiety when that isn’t the case. Peer support I feel for mental health at the age could be slim, and also something more polarizing especially if no one around can relate! Banding together through common experiences, interests or hobbies can be helpful! I’d say for someone in the same age it’d be nice to connect with things that can foster experiences rather than for the common link of anxiety. I find that link to be an unpleasant one, especially when both parties in a friendship struggle with anxiety because it could be hard to balance those 2 out or give it equal place, which could lead to friction! Finding someone with good footing, positivity and support I feel the best option as well as someone older, since that person can be a mentor and guide to how to handle life and it’s many challenges. An adult has a better head on their shoulders and can probably pave the wave for that kid to gain confidence and seek out friendships with common denominators important to them! I found in middle school I was very lonely, my parents didn’t give me the support I needed and weren’t around to talk to me, maybe an adult to talk to who shows they care and want to listen would help as well!

Books are a fabulous escape! I found myself reading more then than I ever have, including while I’ve been at college lol. I found after school programs semi helpful, just to be in the same environment as other kids who went to school with me! I also had carpools with some students since my parents couldn’t take me home or to school all the time which solidified some friendships for a bit! Often times we were dropped off at the library which was fun to explore! I found hobbies and crafts to be the most helpful! I could escape on YouTube for hours learning about that stuff! When times are tough try a mess of hobbies, or even something with mild interest attached already that can be built upon! I have a twin sister and even then didn’t find a sense of comradery with her until later. If you wait for someone in the same age range to turn the tides you might be waiting forever, I know I was.
