What is the difference between and anti depressant and anti psychotic

My dr wants me to try an anti psychotic as anti depressants are just not working for me and actually are making me worse...if that is possible, what is the difference between the two,,,I know I should be asking him and I will, but for anyone who has taken both, please tell me what differences you have found.

Hello, I don't have a profound answer but I do take both a anti depressant, bipolar and schizophrenia medication. My Phychiatric Dr. is right now trying a mix of medications to find the best mix for me. My experience is it can take some time and changing medications to find the right ones. I really ask my Dr. alot of questions and it sounds like you will too. Best of wishes to you!

You could research it yourself. I think antidepressants make me insane, like uninhibited and relaxed. Antipsychotics I have taken many of. They seem to numb my emotions. Since taking them, I dream in black and white mostly. They are all different and affect everyone differently so I don't know.
