Another post about my garden.

Well David, at your request here is another post with photos of my garden.

It has been so lovely to get everyone replies and read all about their gardens, perhaps we should make it a regular slot and each do some posts about our gardens or pot plants with or without photos.

The pictures from top left clockwise are as follows:

Tower lily, I have struggled to grow these before but have succeeded this year. After a few years, if it survives, it will grow around 6 feet tall with big flowers apparently.

In my vegetable garden I am harvesting new potatoes, broad beans and artichokes at present. The new 🥔 s are like digging up treasure. I turn the soil over with a spade then reach into the dark loam to find the perfect oval shapes. It is a small moment of pleasant anticipation to see how many will be on each plant. I tend to be impatient and dig them early so do not get a heavy crop but the flavour when cooked with butter is heavenly. Potatoes are so easy to grow, it is hard to go wrong with them.

Globe artichokes are not to everyone's taste but I find their flavour so beautiful and subtle when you peel off each sepal and dip it in melted butter to nibble off the fleshy end. The flavour gets better and better as you peel off the layers until you reach the heart and the taste of that is just heavenly. I will post some pics of them another time. They are great for encouraging bees if you leave some of the big exotic purple flower heads to open instead of eating them.

This picture is my favourite pear tree. Every year it produces a heavy crop of the most beautiful and the best flavoured 🍐s you have ever tasted which are not at all grainy in texture. I will let you into a secret and tell you the variety is Beth .

The next picture is my wildlife pond which has the little jetty Pete built and the surrounding planting of a golden leylandi species with a flat habit which fans out over the pond. Behind this is a white rose which I bought cut price from a low price store and was nearly dead when I planted it. It has thrived, taken on a perfect shape without much pruning and gets covered in pink streaked buds which open out into white blooms and flowers all through the summer, particularly if you dead head it. In front of that is a Cistus with darkish pink blooms which flowers beautifully in spring. You cannot see these bushes in the collage so I will post pics of them another time.

The next picture shows our border and boat seat which Pete made out of an old ⛵ he picked up for a pittance, abandoned in a boat yard. Thrown in were cabin doors from another old boat with wonderful carvings of chamois and mountains on them which he has made into a beautiful small wardrobe for our daughters bedroom. I will have to post a picture of it sometime for you to see.

Finally is a flower I do not know the name of, I also have it in purple and white in the same border which surrounds the far end of the pond.

We often sit huddled up in the boat seat with a blanket and a lovely lunch with s bottle of wine after a walk when the weather has turned. It is out of the prevailing winds so is very cosy and we can admire the border which we see less often. We usually sit at the other end of the pond overlooking the jetty to eat our meals in summer and watch the swallows swoop over the water for a drink and the torquise and golden dragonflies dip down to lay their eggs on reeds on the surface of the water.

Well looking forward to getting some posts from others about their gardens. If anyone wants help to make up collages on their phone or to post the phone pics I am happy to tell you how I do it.

Very best wishes

Kim
