Butterflies are so small and fragile but can achieve the most amazing things in life. They have an incredible life cycle which most people learn about as children. However less known are the trials and challenges some of these beautiful delicate creatures undergo in adult life.
For example the Painted Lady and the Red Admiral fly thousands of miles over the oceans when they migrate.
Pete and I once watched a Red Admiral with tattered wings land on our sailing boat whilst we were out at sea off the South coast. It was resting after phenomenal journey from Africa and made us feel humble and privileged that it had chosen our boat for a much needed break.
From top left in a clockwise direction these are a Red Admiral, Cabbage White, Comma and Painted Lady. ( Can't help having spotted that the Comma butterfly 🦋 was the only one in this list which did not have a comma after its name😊)
If anyone enjoyed this post, look back on my profile and you will see I did quite a few posts about butterflies last summer, including the Comma and the Gatekeeper.
Very best wishes
