Prednisone for shoulder injury
Im a retired nurse and can share with you what I have observed. Steroids ( prednisone) can cause mood swings in some people. Some complain of difficulty sleeping and feeling jittery. The good news is 10 mg is a fairly low dose so hopefully it wont bother you. Be sure to take it with food as it can upset the stomach and take it early in the day. Good luck. The bennefit for it helping the shoulder should outweigh any side effects you might notice.
Yea i am supposed to take it like 4 times a day for three days and gradually taper down. This is just until i can see an orthopedic. I hope i have no mood swings but my pain is very bad.
Your pain should get alot better pretty quick. Glad they r tapering your dose. It’s usually the sudden stop that gets the mood stirred up. Im guessing you will b fine.
One more thought re prednisone. I hope you are not diabetic. It can elevate blood sugars in diabetics.
Im not diabetic but i have high hemoglobin levels and high blood pressure. Just took it and mine was 174 104. And that was after taking 4 10mg tabs of prednisone
Are you feeling anxious? Try and relax, recheck it in the morning before taking hour next dose. If it is still that high, call your doc. Avoid salt and high sodium foods. Make sure you are drinking enough water. Might be pain/ anxiety but need to let your doc know if it is that high tomorrow.
No im not really anxious. I honestly feel fine except bloated. I have high blood pressure usually but never been that high.
Steroids can cause fluid retention which can drive up your blood pressure but odd it would happen this fast. Give your doc a call in am. If you have a bathroom scale, might be good to weigh every morning to see how much extra fluid you are carrying. Let us know how it goes
How long will it take to ease pain
I'm 69yo and last MONDAY cracked my scapula, cracked 2 ribs and punctured left lung crashing my bicycle after being hit by a 150+lb wild hog. In the ER at hospital I had 2 - 4mg morphine injections then REFUSED additional pain meds due to reactions I had decades ago from another incident. 500mg acetaminophen @ 8 hour intervals IS ALL I WANT IN MY BODY. Retired Nurse Hoski got the effects right plus I just felt additionally real strange. Same med scenario with my total right shoulder replacement 4 years ago in that operation drugs were all I had then acetaminophen after going home.
Take as needed but suggest trying to get off ASAP. GOOD LUCK!!!!! ;0)
Yes, great when you need it but I could never sleep, felt jittery and bloated like a balloon. Also severe muscle aches. Def works for inflammatory issues. Mine was lungs and it saved me alot of times.
Ive taken 3 so far and feel nothing. 10mg tabs.
sounds like u b good to go, hopefully, but keep eye on bp
Yea i read increased bp is a side effect.
Yes and rapid pulse. It's not dangerous but long term it can affect your weight and breaks down your teeth but that takes many months. I think you will be fine.
Yes. My very first dose had me crying for no reason, not sleeping, and having what felt like one long anxiety attack for 3 solid days. I refused to take anymore. It took me 2 ER visits and 2 weeks to get all of the effects out of my system. Never again unless it's a dire circumstance.
Ive been on it 2 days 40 mg a say i think im gonna stop cold turkey. Its making my blood pressure go up.
So you took it once and it did that to you after just one dose? Wow
Yes, I'm really sensitive to it. I talked to my doctor after the first dose did that and he had me come back in right away and gave me something to help me through the symptoms. I can't remember what it was though. Call the doctor that prescribed it to you before stopping and tell them what's happening. After 2 doses, you're already getting your body used to it and stopping cold turkey might cause more issues. Your blood pressure could be high simply from the anxiety of taking the medicine.
