It’s physical... right?

Just a quick post for my anxiety people

I have been a sufferer since 10 y/o. Really younger than that but there’s where I noticed it wasn’t normal

My question is (bc this is my biggest battle) what do y’all do to fight physical symptoms? “Fight or flight” I want to fight. I am tired of running but how do I fight?

Tonight my physical symptom are my arms burning. Is it a deadly rash? No. But my mind can’t comprehend that. Because anxiety is always almost in control (especially at night). How do you trust yourself to know your mind is playing tricks on you versus it’s REALLY something to worry over?

Hi dbeck, We have to become in tune with ourselves. Not just assume it's anxiety

but also not let symptoms we may get, send up a red alert. Knowing and experiencing

how anxiety works as well as how we respond to it's lies , can help us to know when we

need to seek help.

As much as we struggle with anxiety, it cannot be a battle. Once we go into the "fight

or flight" mode, we are doomed. Adrenaline levels shoot up, breathing gets erratic and

heart beat and blood pressure go off the charts.

We have to get back in control. This is our life and anxiety doesn't deserve to control

us. My foundation has been the theory that Dr. Claire Weekes wrote in her book,

"Hope & Help for Your Nerves". In her research, she discovered the key to lowering

our fears and anticipatory anxiety thoughts thru Acceptance. Accepting that these

symptoms are not harmful. Allowing our emotions to just go with it, stay calm let the

fear just run it's course.

I found that once I did this, anxiety no longer controlled me. I got my life back. It can

no longer scare me. I use Meditation and Breathing instead of fighting. It works. The

more we practice acceptance and breathe our way through it, the weaker it gets.

As for physical symptoms, whether real or not, it does no good to fear it. If you think

there's a problem, by all means call your doctor. Keeping calm in any stressful situation

is a better way to keep in control. :) xx

Your response is really helpful, I like the idea of me being able letting it run it’s course, though that’s my problem.. if I cant control it what is it going to do to me?

It is not going to hurt you or kill you. But you will continue to feel uncomfortable

and in a state of fear. I was like that for many years until I got angry one day that

this entity was not allowing me to live my life, I was just existing. I would cry, I would

hope that it would just stop one day by itself. But there is no magic pill, no magic wand.

I realized that I had 2 choices. Either learn how to live with it or find a method/tool that

I could use to lower the adrenaline. And with that, eventually my anxiety was no longer

a problem or a threat to me. :) xx

Hi dbeck, nice to meet you.I believe flight or fright serves a purpose. Its been known since the beginning of man...its whe it gets stuck in overdrive that there is an issue.None of us are doomed. There is always hope and we can use flight/fright as we learn to benefit and not harm.I didn't use to look at it as a blessing.Somethings we do need to know in our hearts..stop! go another way!Purpose? How can we make it a benefit.at one time in my life, I couldn't turn it off.Small baby steps got me from...the couch...to eventually step by step..out on my back porch and then a volunteer. It was another process in life.I had a physical therapist tell me...all things are physical because even mental issues start in the brain which is an organ....so treat yourself good, dont be so hard on yourself, surround by beauty..of that which YOU are....

We are in this together. It’s always nice knowing someone is going thru the same thing. To not be alone in your own battle!
