Lately without much warning I get these overwhelming feelings of helplessness and fear. During them I can't ever seem to pinpoint what I am afraid of but the fear is powerful. At first I would barely use my anxiety meds, but lately I am taking it more regularly. The attacks sometimes hit right when I first wake up but can and do happen at all different times. The bad feelings seem to linger for hours..Does anyone know how to prevent anxiety attacks or at least lessen their duration?? I'm tired of being terrified for no good reason!

Anxiety attacks can be scary. The first thing you need to do is accept the attack. I know this is hard but the better you accept it the less power it has over you. Secondly try to distract yourself from the current situation if possible. Maybe go for a walk or a ride. Dont try to control it but instead allow to process through like a wave. Medicate if your are prescribed something to help you and still use these simple techniques. If it feels too overwhelming seek professional help and talk it through. Keep in mind anxiety lives strongest in our minds. You have to change your thoughts to change the way you feel about the anxiety and it will be lessened.
Breathing helps, I usually put my back into a corner and take deep breaths and tell myself that everything's ok that I'm okay, I use to have panic attacks while worrying over panic attacks
In addition to deep breathing I find progressive muscle relaxation helps me a lot as well as grounding myself in the present moment and space.
