Considering medication

Hiya!

I'm new here :). I'm 24 years old, I've had underlying depression and anxiety for about the last 10 years. Throughout that time I've tried counselling, CBT and psychotherapy. I'm currently seeing someone for counselling but I feel as though at this point perhaps I should start to consider medication.

I was hoping to get other peoples perspectives on possible medication options, whats worked for you, what hasn't worked for you and when you decided that medication was an option you wanted to consider.

Recently I feel as though it's gotten much worse, I had an assessment and was found to have severe depression and severe anxiety. I just finished university, split up from my partner of 4.5 years, I'm moving across the country for a job in a few months, to a city where I know no one and I have a poor family life. I don't know if it's best to just try and cope and continue to see a therapist or consider trying something else alongside.

Thanks in advance for any help or guidance you can provide :)

I would try medication. When I started on Prozac years ago and felt "normal" it was such a relief. I didn't realize what a strain coping on my own had been. I wish i had gotten on Prozac sooner, my life may have been very different.

I can tell you that Effexor has helped me. Just to let give you info there is a test now that can show you what medications are better suited to you. It is called genesite. If you choose medication you could ask your doctor about it. Depressed anonymous is another option. I found that medication works well with therapy. Anyway I hope this helps you.
