If you're worried, have a doctor check out your throat. If you check out okay, then you know it's just your nerves playing tricks on you. When your nerves are strained, all kinds of stuff can seem to be happening.
It’s scary right.. your mind can play evil tricks on you especially the more you think about things. Funnily enough I was exactly like you.. it only happened to me on night times, I’d run into my mums room and tell her my throat is closing up.. want to no what she said..
she told me “sweetie let me have a listen to your throat, your throat seems to be telling me to have a listen to your brain” yes this sounds dumb lol.. at the time I was only 12 years old, anyway “your brain just told me your overworking him, I need you to relax, breath in & out.. dry your tears & thank your brain for telling mummy why you think this is happening”
I never really understood back then what she meant by all that but it seemed to be my cure lol! Mums are the best right.. ❤️
Anyway she was basically saying everything links to your brain & it’s incredible how much it plays tricks on you especially when you think more & more about it, so when you think your throat is closing.. do this;
Stand up.. look at yourself in the mirror, breath calmly in and out 5 times.. tell yourself you are a beautiful strong independent lady and tell yourself everything will be alright. I’m sorry if I sound like a complete loony but it worked with me & really hope this helps you!! If you need someone to talk to.. feel free ☺️
Hope you are okay dbeck x
Wow!! That was so comforting. And your mom sounds like such a sweet lady. Thankyou so much for that ❤
I’m glad ☺️ you are bright & beautiful ☺️☺️ and yes she’s my rock!! I love her to pieces, but now it’s me taking care of her.. she has fibromyalgia & was in hospital a few weeks ago.. I came to visit her.. she was crying bless her.. wanna no what I said? Ima tell you anyway 😛 I said “mum let me have a listen to the pain, oh she just told me that her muscles are abit sensitive than other & have just been over worked a little bit” she’s a get up & go type of woman lol she never stops so it just got abit painful for her but she is amazing now! She’s out of hospital.. but when we got out of hospital.. I told her to look in the mirror, take 5 deep breaths & relax! And tell yourself you are my beautiful & healthy mum that’s the strongest you’ve ever been..” it’s a thing we do and it’s amazing how much it works, I’m so sorry for telling you that I just like to share my stories❤️ xx
Great replies Benn. Mums really can be the best. I lost my very wise kind mum 3 years ago and miss her every day

Hi as an asthma sufferer I get attacks where I can't breathe for what seems like ages. Eventually I always do though. I was told that if you pass out with it your body immediately relaxes and your lungs start breathing properly again so try not to worry. x
The way your throat would close is if you have strep throat? Though I will say anxiety can make you think your feeling anything
I understand FULLY. I suffer from health anxiety and I definitely know that feeling
There goes those "what ifs...." Concentrate on the results you want, not on the negative what ifs.... I know it's easy to say until that monster of an anxiety attack comes along.
It sure is scary.
Practice makes perfect?
Anxiety can cause you to hyperventilate. I also experience this feeling like I can't breathe, but it's easier now that I know what's happening. I just remind myself that I'm most likely hyperventillating, and then I pay attention to my breathing for a few minutes. There is a thing called 2:1 breathing, my therapist taught me, where you take a deep breath in while counting and then exhale for twice as many counts. So you're really focusing on your exhale, making sure that you breathe every last bit of air out before inhaling again. Try this a couple of times, and see if it helps. It helped me.
