Has anyone else started taking prozac and notice side effects straight away?
I took first tablet 20mg 6 hours ago and already i notice i'm feeling anxiety, and nervousness, have a headache, side temples feel like they are being pushed together, and feel a bit drowsy. And my face cheek muscles ache.
I was meant to go out for a meal tonight but the anxiety took over, and i had to cancel. I was actually feeling good earlier. But i know its the prozac kicking in already.

Saw no one replied to this, so I'll chime in....yes, I noticed immediately (as in hours later). Some of the main side effects it listed, literally one pill and they were evident. They say some of this should subside (such as the anxiety) with prolonged use. Some other meds in the same class have done the same. Some doctors may write you a short-term "immediate help" medication to alleviate the anxiety and so on until the Prozac kicks in. I won't suggest Prozac doesn't help as it just didn't work for me. I would give it a shot if it's not too bothersome. If it is bothersome, I'd call your doctor to see what they recommend as a next step. If you've only taken a single dose, you should be able to discontinue it until you're able to speak to someone about it as it hasn't built up in your system. This arguably the worst part of beginning treatment as the side effect phase is make or break for some people. If you weren't written a short term medication (such as a benzo), you might see if your doctor agrees with that course of action. It might help you tolerate and function in the mean time....but I will caution only taking that type of med for the short term (usually at most 2-3 weeks) as they are addictive. What you're going through is common, but also it may not hurt to call the pharmacist to get their professional opinion. I hope this helps and, most importantly, I hope you're feeling better and the side effects have subsided!
