Hello I have just been recommended to this app and I am about to start taking medication soon. I want to know if there is anyone who has learned to live a normal life whether through medication and therapy. I want to see if there is a point to any treatment or if i would feel this way regardless of what i do.
Thank you

Hi there!! While I'm not sure which medication you are starting, it really doesn't matter because you can lead a perfectly normal life! I am on 2 different medications. One for adhd and the other depression. I can tell you that it has helped so much! I have had to change meds once or twice due to tweaking out dosage and or side effects but once you find what works it helps! I used to be sceptical of medication. I didn't want any and I was afraid it would "change" me. Its perfectly normal to be afraid or nervous. But now I don't feel that way. I'm not ashamed or what not. I'm perfect the way I am and I just need a little chemical balancing help in my brain. The meds don't define you. I have found it's helped in so many ways. As far as therapy goes, it's been a godsend for me. I go once a week. I've gotten to the point where I'm not afraid to tell people I need therapy. There's absolutely nothing wrong with talking to someone. It shows that you are taking care of yourself! It's uncomfortable, no doubt but it gets easier. Being vulnerable tales bravery and you took a huge step today by reaching out! Sometimes it feels like we are alone in this but you arent! People like myself have felt the same as you and still deal with it at times. But therapy and meds together are a great combo for learning how to deal with scenarios and situations. My life has changed for the better.
We can't tell you what to do but I can tell you once you get things rolling and figure out what works for you, you are on your way. But if you start these meds and after its been in your system for a couple days and you notice things like anger, sadness, symptoms that make you feel extremely uncomfortable, then contact your Dr! It may not be the right medication and that's ok. Never stop taking the meds either. Some you need to wean yourself off of with help from your Dr.
Sorry for the long response but I can relate to how you feel. It can be scary but vulnerability and reaching out helps! People care about you! Always remember that.
I appreciate your response! I’m just afraid of taking medication in general plus i didnt know if it would be worth it in the end. I know that different meds affect people differently so i guess its mainly trial and error at this point.
both treatment and meds have helped me a lot.... however there is no magic pill or quick fix with depression...there is no cure....only management and coping.... your always going to have the ups and downs emotionally, it's just learning how to ride that emotionally roller coaster that does get better.
Hello! I am sorry you are going through this. There is nothing wrong with wanting to better your mental health. If seeing a therapist will help in any way, I recommend trying it! Make sure you tell them ALL that you are going through and they will help you the best way that they can. I hope everything gets better.
