is this a collection agency... if so....they cannot legally talk to anyone but you concerning a debt. I would contact a consumer advocacy regarding this.

Yeah it's probably collection agency. Nothing I can do but ignore it. I have no extra money.

This is just me- I would not ignore it- instead talk to them and try to make arrangements.

If you live with your mom -talk with them even if they make arrangements for very little per month. Ignoring only makes the problem worse as burying your head in the sand.

actually there is a lot you can do..... and one of them is.... after a certain number of years when a debt has not been paid off, depending on what it is such as a credit card, the debt gets zeroed out. Each state has a statute of limitation such as California is 3 years and Oregon is 6 years and so on. If a collection agency contacts you and harasses you after that date....do not contact them or the statute starts again from day one.....it's against the law for them to threaten you, or contact your place of employment or family members....that is grounds for you to counter sue them. So.... ignore it unless your statute of limitations is still active....then it's possible for you to get your debt lessened to an affordable amount. You can actually re-negotiate the outstanding debt amount to pennies on the dollar at times. I got my 10,000. debt down to 2,000.

I owe credit cards, taxes, school loans and it's just too overwhelming to process. It's a choice between having a place to stay or pay credit cards. But thanks for listening

Cut up your credit cards- and shred them- credit cards were designed for the wealthy. Do not use them anymore.

I'm serious about the statute of limitations....look up what state your in and how long you have owed the money and if it's past that date...don't talk to anyone. Your always supposed to pay them but they can no longer pursue you legally.

Actually it's getting to the point where I wd rather be dead than deal with this for rest of my life. Can't get a higher paying job, been in debt for most of my life, almost 30yrs of struggling. I only make 34k a year with 2 bachelor degrees

What are your degrees in- sounds like you are being underpaid. Are you a young person? I am sure you have done this- but maybe you could see a career center and get some suggestions.

I'm 50years old, underemployed. BS in Zoology & Information Systems. There are just too many closed doors. I'm stuck and have been for years.

Wow, sounds like you are quite bright- what do you do with zoology? I am passionate about all animals. I hope you find something better with that level of education.

in reply to gogogirl

When I first graduated I worked in lab jobs testing for various things. Never made any real money. My lack of social skills kept me from climbing corporate ladder. Zoology is only good if u go to vet school.

Yes, I heard that about zoology- what about the info systems part? Hey, I understand about the social skills part at work- there should be a transition from college course on that! I am probably also talking through my hat- but what about talking to AARP about some ideas? After all, you are above fifty now. You sound very bright having worked in the sciences.

Bankruptcy will eliminate the credit card debt

in reply to

How do I go about doing this, how

in reply to

Contact a bankruptcy attorney, it’s a pretty simple process. My husband did this a few years ago and got rid of his credit card debt completely

Make sure you research and contact a good bankruptcy attorney. There are bad ones out there

My family filed bankruptcy earlier this year. They go by what you make & you only have to pay a certain amount every month. They can no longer harass you either. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. Financial struggles are one of the hardest struggles when it comes to depression for us. I know what you’re going through. I would recommend talking to a bankruptcy lawyer too & seeing what you could do about that. I wish you all the best. 💕
