I’ve been feeling really low f...

I’ve been feeling really low for the past few hours. I tried to do things to feel better like go for a walk, pet my cat, and run an errand. Can’t seem to shake the self-harm thoughts nor the self-hatred. I’m not sure how to get some relief. I wish I could escape my mind

Stay strong. You are never alone.

I hope you were able to wait it out and let it pass... sometimes those awful feelings just want to hang around. Generate the courage that is inside you and live through those moments. Journaling helps me process the feelings. ❤️

I used to journal. But now I just have a bunch of journals filled with sad shit which upsets me

Me too, I went through 5 journals the last year. Journals help you process your thoughts not necessarily will make you feel better. Having a good cry helps too, let it all out. I don’t know the details about your situation as for what is behind your hurt, but Viktor Frankl believes that all addictions and despair is from a lack of meaning. So, the cure would be to find meaning in your life. The greatest source of meaning is serving, so either volunteering or working in a job where you improve someone’s life. I am struggling with this currently so that is why I offer it to you.

I have "Man's Search for Meaning" and have read it many times. Reading what he experienced and what he lost puts more perspective on my life.

It’s just how our minds work sometimes. They are just thoughts, ruminating. Try not to take them on, these thoughts don’t define us, nor do they drive us. Try not to push them away, let them come and go. Learning meditation will help you to see this pattern, which will lesson how these thoughts cause such negative emotions. We have a thought, with gives us a feeling followed by an emotion, than the emotions fuel the thoughts and around and around it goes. Let the thoughts come and try not to attach emotions to them. Don’t try to chase the thoughts or even try to understand them, they are just thoughts.

At least you didn’t give in to those thoughts. You are fighting. You can never lose if you are still fighting. Even if the feelings remain.
