citalopram please help

I started taking 20mg in 2012 and I didn't think they helped much so my doctor increased the dose to 30mg this year and again I didn't think they contributed to my well being.

I stopped taking them about a month ago as I couldn't tell the difference which I know is very silly. It wasn't really a conscious decision other than the fact that I have a lot on my plate and life got in the way.

I have just had a big operation and unfortunately I also have had a lot more stress and upset on top of this.

So I think I need to 're start them.

Is it best to start with 20mg for a while?

I can't get to the doctors as I have had a hop replacement.

I think it's okay, I stated on that & Now up to 40mg. Maybe this drug is not for you, they all work different on everyone. I sure hope this helps you! XXX

My pleasure! XXX

Maybe you could call the prescribers office and ask. You might need a different drug. I personally, have to put my mental health first because without that, I have nothing. Nothing works if I’m in a full blown depressive episode and no help. I hope your surgical recovery goes well! Sending you hugs!!

You should still consult your dr about this and from my experience it is dangerous, to you, to abruptly stop any anti-depressant/ anti- anxiety medication as it can cause a flareup of symptoms that you may not be able to handle well. These meds have to be weaned down gradually and adjusted up gradually. I personally was like you and did not think they were effective but once off of them I crashed. That was while I was hospitalized. The "professionals" had me off them as I was vomiting daily. It was an abrupt stop with no substitution and thus was not pretty. Good luck.
