Hi Vettech12
Cymbalta (duloxetine) is a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It increases serotonin and norepinephrine activity in the brain, which regulates mood in 2 ways.
Because of this 2 part action, it is often prescribed after a single action drug such as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) has not worked.
The bonus is that a lower-cost generic duloxetine available
Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase your risk of liver damage.
For me the worst part was having a constantly dry mouth - always carrying water to drink now and the constantly feeling tired.
Recently gave up under doctor's supervision using a tapering method over 2 weeks. No side effects.
Now taking a different drug from the same group of SNRIs, Effexor XR (venlafaxine). I wait and see if it will work for me.
Whatever you do, give the drug sufficient time to start working, at least 4-6 weeks.
I want to say that you have to decide what is more important in your life are you functioning or not? That's important that being said I was on Cymbalta for 2 years and I am now coming off and switching back to a med that does not numb me as much. I have never felt and delt with a withdraw from a medication in my life, Its been 2 weeks and I am still feeling the effects not as bad but. If I would have known I don't know that I would have taken it. In speaking with my support system though at the time I needed it to function because I was not. SO knowledge is power! and there is ABSOLUTELY a mind, body, spirit aspect to this disability. what are you feeding your mind, body and spirit... life's a journey take it one day at a time!!!
