Social Anixety. I have really bad social anxiety. I feel like I don't like people, but I know that is not true. It's like when I'm around strangers and they try and have small talk, it seems like I make them sad. I have never been good with small talk or making friends easily. Has anyone else ever felt this way?

Social Anxiety
A lot of people feel anxious when meeting new people or presented with small talk whether feeling the need to entertain or worried about saying something wrong. The only advice I can give is to be yourself and those deserving of being around you will understand. Easier said than done, I know. It is also okay to exit situations in which you feel comfortable but at the same time do not inhibit yourself. Balance is key.
Millions of people have social anxiety and feel just like you described. There is help for social anxiety. Check out the ADAA website. I have had a similar problem for over 30 years. I had tried psychiatry but they prescribed me tranquilizers for dealing with the problem and they helped for some time but I had to use more and more to drive the feeling of anxiety away. Finally I went to a psychologist who treated me with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). The treatment can be difficult at times but if you put the effort in it will repay you with an life that teaches you how to deal with your anxiety feelings. Or to put it other terms you will be able to handle any feelings of anxiety and lead a normal like. Find a CBT therapist and work with him/her for a normal life. Good luck to you.
