Much as I like yogurt, I never really bought into it's health benefits, that or Yakult/kefir/natto/cheese/kim chi. The Japanese eat a phenomenal amount of fermented food, and they live forever, despite smoking like chimneys. OK, they eat a lot of fish too, and veg, and smaller portions.

But I loves me some fermented food, and there is a demonstrated gut/brain link. Serotonin is all manufactured in your guts for starters.

We've talked before about why some of us progress quicker/earlier than others.

Diet, location, exercise, drink/drugs, other diseases interacting with AMN, and now gut health.

It's well worth investigating. If it can help ALS, There is hope for us all.

What say you all?

Agree! I'm on a modified paleo diet (no gluten, soy, dairy or refined sugar). I started shortly after my AMN diagnosis. After removing a lot of these inflammatory foods, especially bread and pasta, and adding more dark greens and vegetables, my gut feels so much better. I am a true believer!

I need to go on an elimination diet. There are some culprits which I believe may be causing inflammation which is a big no-no with us. Congrats on adhering to your modified diet!

I love my low-fat organic and non-organic yogurt which I have frequently. Love me some kraut! This topic is quite popular amongst my health newsletters.

I've been reading up on probiotics. As well as their beneficial effects on obesity, diabetes, and neurological functions, they can also upregulate genes.

Cured at last.

I'll make a list of every fermented/cultured food I know. We can add to it.

Blue cheese, mmmm.
