So Nutra Pharma is in the final stage of the R&D pipeline for the drug RPI-78m. It is suppose to treat numerous diseases including AMN. The problem is that their website doesn't go in to any specifics about what it exactly does for the patient. Does any one have an inside scoop on this? I've emailed them but have yet to get a response.
I've been following Receptopharm for a number of years. I'm not sure this is new. I think RPI-78M has been at this stage for several years, but I could be wrong. According to their SEC filings, they are woefully underfinanced. Most of the funding was personally supplied by its CEO. (I haven't checked recently though) Also, their website doesn't indicate any new press since 2010. I do hope that they are making progress on RPI-78M. But I'm not confident they are.
This one's a turkey, I am afraid. Nutra Pharma has been moribund for many years and is desperately seeking a buyer. Their only product is an oral spray with a minute dose of cobra venom. It's marketed as a pain-killer. Although there is an interesting concept that venoms can alter signaling in the nervous system for beneficial results, several trials of their compound with various neurological conditions have been inconclusive.
My layman's guess is that new drugs will unfortunately not help people suffering from AMN. It seems like any good they create are more than offset by the side effects.
I used to follow Nutra Pharma, but as others have suggested nothing has happened for quite some time.
Sorry I never got round to replying earlier but I am one of about 12 people in a placebo controlled trial organised in London a few years ago. It didn't show any real benefits, so the idea was not pursued. Since then the drug company has come up with other ideas which are believed to be the same old mixture!
