Covid Shot

At 39 I was told I was having PVC's and an irregular heartbeat. Wore a monitor a few times and some years later was diagnosed with AFIB by the VA. They put me on Eliquis and Metoprolol and all was fine for years. Only problem was when I had a Dr. appointment they would always ask how I felt and was I dizzy? Feel fine and not dizzy. I used to run a little bit and power walk and I was in the gym often. My wife was a certified nautilus instructor and aerobics instructor at our local YMCA and my resting heart rate was usually between 38 and 44. I had no problems, was never short of breath, had no chest pain, life was good. Cardiologist said I was totally asymptotic. Then came the COVID! Got the Covid shot at the VA. Everything was fine for a few months until one day I was in my office repairing a few computers which is what I have been doing since 1997. Something felt off but I couldn't say what, went in the house and wife said what is wrong. No idea, she said sit down take your blood pressure. Did as told, blood pressure was just a tad above normal. However pulse was 188. Called VA, they said go to Emergency Room. Did so and had to do it 3 more times, Oct, Nov and Dec 2022. Ever since then my resting heart rate has been 132BPM 24/7. Lots of fatigue and currently scheduled for an ablation in May. EP said it probably won't be successful since my heart rate has been so high for such a long time. He said I would likely leave the hospital with a pacemaker. 77 is too old for this stuff!

Hubby and I both had pacemakers last year and brilliant

BUT a pacemaker (well mine anyway) only stops the heart rate from going too low and usual default is 60 bpm

However I think there may be some that does stop rate going too high

Good luck, but maybe check either the EP

If it was months after your vaccination I doubt it would be linked. I have an arrhythmia based reaction to Covid vaccines and it’s within hours and lasts for months.

AF is pretty common and more common as you age. Given you already had some issues, I’d say it’s likely just a progression of that.

Hi

Beta Blockers such as Metopolol H/R 186 and 47 avg normal with pauses at night. ! year 5 months changed to Bisoprolol 156 no breathless or pauses though.

Left.

Encouraged to go to private cardiologist. 3 years 3 months controlled on CCB Calcium Channel Blocker Diltiazem 120 CD mg. Less than 1/2 dose. A wonder med for me. Bisoprolol stopped in December because of low BP.

H/Rate controlled in 80s. Day avg.

Trial on a CCB.

I only took Eliquis for about a year I had no problem with it except for easy bruising and it was very expensive. I have had a watchman for 3 years now so haven’t taken Eliquis since.

Do you think the Covid shot started up all of this? If so, I wonder if there is a way to detox one's body from the bad things in the shot? I don't have an answer for that, but I'm sure someone does. One of the worst decisions I ever made was to be fearful and take the Covid shot. Thanks.

Goodness - you myst be fed up. A pacemaker can only speed up a slow heart. If the tachycardia you have is caused by the top if the heart (atrial) or the AV node, then I’m guessing the pacemaker will be for an AV nide ablation that stops all atrial signals and reduces the heart to bradycardia at about 30bpm, which the PM moves up as required. The atrium can then do its own thing and leave you in peace.

I’m sorry to hear of your BP problem. Your EP isn’t someone I would necessarily stay with. He isn’t encouraging and waiting EIGHT MONTHS for an ablation is unacceptable. (Oct - May). Maybe a second opinion could be an option? Don’t know whether you live in US but our Cleveland Clinic is world renowned for treatment of Afib and related heart issues.
