had catheter ablation January 13th this year , no AF since BUT when I bend over to clean bath or wash my hair my heart rate shoots upto 161 beats per minute is this normal it does settle down after a couple of minutes or so and I don’t go into AF thank god, but is this normal, I know it’s still early days and I’m still in the blanking period

post ablation

Have a read. healthunlocked.com/redirect.... All sorts of oddities can happen but since it did not maintain sounds promising. raised HR post ablation is common but 160 is high.
It might be nothing to worry about but if it was me then I would want to get checked out. Can you speak to the arrhythmia nurse where you had your ablation ?
i think i would be asking my cardiologist or EP just to be on the safe side. Or your arrhythmia nurse if you have one
Excuse typos. Won’t let me go back to edit
Plus annoying I have to sign in st every different post
Hi I think like you said ita still the blanking period. I am 3 months after ablation now and the other night I had some flutters. They said they may have been ectopic beats and not to worry at the moment. I am coming off heart, beta blockers, blood thinners in the next couple of weeks. This is to see how I get on. Hopefully you will be the same.🙂
Yes I’m scared off coming off beta blockers and blood thinners in two months time, I think I want to stay on them to be honest as a security blanket
They did say to me how do I feel about it. I want to give it a go. I do know what you mean though a safety blanket. 🙂
Safety blanket meaning if I go into AF after blanking period, I’ll be covered by not having a stroke by staying on blood thinners and beta blockers
Yes i understand. They said to me being 59 so under 65 and not having any blood clots, also 3mths post ablation I was at a low risk of a stroke. 🤞
That’s good, I’m only 57 so consultant may suggest to come off meds, but I’m also on high blood reassure tablets, as well as beta blockers and blood thinners, not sure if I want to come off all 3 tablets
It is worrying, I'm going to slowly do it. See how it goes..
How will you be doing that, so that I can try that way too after 3 month blanking period, cause I’m worrying too.
I have just stopped the blood thinners last night and in two weeks time I'm going to reduce my heart tablet to once a day and do it for a week then drop to none. Then I will drop the beta blocker to once a day and do the same. 🙂
I get increased HR when I bend down at times, and palpitations. 160bpm seems high, as Bb says, and suggests arrhythmia is prompting such a rate, but if it settles as soon as you stand back up, I don't know. I can certainly get very brief episodes of AF, though - but never causing 160bpm. If you had an Apple Watch or similar you might catch this happening?

I'd ask or just put it down to the scars healing and all will be well in good time. I wonder what it is about bending down at times. Tying my shoe laces can do it, even. I guess the abdmone pushes against the diaphragm, and the heart all-but lies on this, so could be pressed - and pressure on the heart can set of ectopic beats,, and those, AF.

I had svt and I found bending down to reach things from a low cupboard or to tie my laces etc would trigger my svt. I learnt to crouch by bending my knees etc. I could reset my hr by lying on my back.
It might therefore be svt. If it is then another ablation could relatively easily stop it. It stopped mine.
As you are still in the early days post ablation hopefully it will settle on its own. In the meantime I’d try crouching instead of bending at your waist.
I’m no medical expert but hope my comments may help.
