Mitigate skin burn after CV?

Has anyone found a way to lessen the burn effect on one’s skin from a CV? I’m talking prior to the CV.

It’s a little late to be asking this question: my CV is scheduled for Friday of this week. But it just occurred to me that maybe someone knows something?

I still have itchy spots from my last CV 3 weeks ago. I expect them to get worse after the coming CV. I treat the burns with aloe, calendula, and emu oil. Those nostrums do help the terrible itch. Should I put them on my skin prior to the procedure? Just a wayward thought. But maybe….?

As a side note, I’m getting off the CV merry-go-round soon with a pacemaker and AV node ablation. Meantime, while I wait in queue, a CV is the only thing that keeps me in NSR from two weeks to two months. But what to do to minimize the burn effects on my skin?

Best keep your skin as dry as possible. A freind of mine had third degree burns due to sweat it is thought. After sun or similar post procedure works well.

I had dreadful reactions to the CV pads after Cardioversions.

My EP and the Anaesthetist took this very seriously.

On later occasions the Anaesthetist sprayed all the proposed sites of the CV pads with a barrier product called OpSite. It creates a thin film and made a significant difference.

You can buy it from Amazon but my hospital had it in their pharmacy.

Hope it is not too late for this to help you.

Thank you! It never occurred to me to talk to the anesthesiologist about it. Will do! I’ll tell them what you said. Hmm. I might call the pre-op anesthesia clinic today.

This forum is so helpful!! Thanks again.

I was badly burnt after my CV last November, I was told to use hydrocortisone cream twice a day until it faded. It really worked, it took the sting out right away.

I’ll try hydrocortisone. Thanks!

I find that Sudocrem Antiseptic works well although luckily, I've not had the opportunity to use it on CV burns. It's not just for babies!

I’m not familiar with that. I’ll investigate. Thanks.

I had this happen to me once. I have had 6 or more CVs. I also also had redness where the EKG pads were attached. Apparently an allergic reaction to the pads they used. They told me that they can use different pads. Never had another problem on CVs after that on as I think they used different pads. Tell them before your next one about your last bad experience and maybe they can use different pads. Did you only have the redness where the CV pads were attached?
