Multiple Cardioversions

Another question for all. My EP wants to do another CV since the first one on 5/7/24 was not successful because of their screw up. Of concern to me is having another CV so close to the prior one. It would be 5-7 weeks between them. Has anyone had multiple CV that close together and what kind of issues/results did you have in restoring NSR and maintaining?

I've had eleven. Closest ever was 18 days. I'm always in fast AF so it's done in A&E as an urgent procedure. No ill effects beyond the usual of feeling exhausted

I once had one late September then mid December so about 10 weeks apart and no issues

There should be no problem in getting a repeat CV. Ask about getting a loading dose of Tikosyn first which may convert you to NSR or increase the chances another CV will convert your to NSR and keep you afib free. I relieved Tikosyn after a failed CV and converted without another CV and have been in NSR for 5 years now. Best etheral

Hi, Could you please what Tikosyn is? And, I was told that one needs to be in active Afib at the time of CV. Mine comes and goes so I would assume that they would need to activate my Afib? Thanks.😊

Last time wife had 3 attempts at CV in same session at increasing strengths. Sadly none of them worked.

Hi DevonHubby1,

What a shame. Is she considering an ablation? That’s what they recommend for me. I had one 7 years ago..hasn’t bothered me until now.

Wondering if she was in active Afib at the time? Did they explain why it didn’t work?

Best of luck!

She's now in persistent AF...which is actually better to cope with than the paroxysmal she had been suffering from. Ablation was not an option as CV failed. She's on Nebivolol which gives her a reasonable QoL. Should have had 6 month follow up by now so will have to chase cardiology dept on that one.

There should be no problems apart from feeling fatigued afterwards. A friend of mine had 3 in quick succession for fast paroxysmal AF over a period of 4 - 6 weeks - hospitalised every time and had CV in A&E each time.
