Mammogram

I am having a routine mammogram next week and wondered if there could be an issue with taking my anticoagulants or from the pressure plates. Should I tell the person that I have Afib? Thank-you.

They should ask your history anyway but neither anticoags or Afib have ever been a problem when I’ve been for one, even my pacemaker isn’t an issue.

Thank-you Bantam. I’ll make sure I tell them.

Been taking anticoagulants since 2009, never heard anything about them having anything to do with a mammogram. The plates won't trigger bleeding. Do you have afib all the time? Don't see what that might have anything to do with mammogram.

Thank-you. I hate having mammograms but I was more worried about not taking my anti-coagulant. I have Afib about once a week.

Take your anticoagulant. Mammogram is a type of xray, and the anticoagulant won't have an effect on it. If you're still concerned, call your doctor's office.

Thank-you. I will take it.

I am sure you will be fine. I didn't have any problems at all at my last mammogram, I think they already knew I had AF and and was on anti-coagulants from my records.

Thank-you. I'll make sure to tell them about the Afib beforehand. They might be gentle with me.

Not had an issue but I do have a fair bit of cushioning 😁.

Good to know, thanks. Wish I had more cushioning 😀

I had breast cancer in 2014 and have had more than 9 mammograms since then. Never had any issues with pressure affecting AF and I do not know of any reason that being on an anticoagulant would cause any problems. Neither AF or being on anticoagulant was ever discussed when having a mammogram.

I've had several mammograms since my diagnosis and always been fine. I only had to stop taking anti coagulation tablet when I had biopsies and lumpectomy

I had a biopsy, a marker & a radio frequency tag inserted all on 3 separate visits without stopping Apixaban. Had a wonderful bruise mind.

Also quite a few mammograms with no problem.

Hope everything goes well with you

I've only had one mammogram since I started on my apixaban and nothing they do is affected by it, nor does the procedure affect my afib. They even managed to perform the mammo without moving my internal loop recorder around, though I did ask them not to compress too much and pop it out (I'm sure their notes say I'm a sarcastic patient).

If it were me and I was concerned about it, then I would ask for a little less compression. They do let you tell them when you've hit your pain threshold and you don't have to let them keep going until it's extreme - or until stress over the procedure (which none of us likes) affects your heart.

Thank you for reminding me that I need to schedule my annual mammogram - I'm overdue.

Thanks Petmice. I will ask for less compression.

Hi

No correlation.

But I asked for a thyroid shield. They have to have one there for you or ring ahead a time of appointment.

Here in NZ the latest mamogramme shows more. Our programme ends at 70 but I had a carcinoma in situ in milk duct. Removed along with a cross sectio of other milk duct.

A bit of a mess!

I will leave it 3 years.
