hello everyone, happy new year to you all. I started taking spray magnesium and I experienced belly aches, not sure if it’s just me but even when I took tablet form a while ago it affected me in a bad way. Just wondering if that’s my body saying I don’t need it or it just doesn’t like it. Any thoughts?
hope everyone is doing good. I have had to up my medication to keep the heart calmer as coming off them seemed to irritate things . Anyway all the best and let’s hope this year is a good one for everyone.

In order for people to comment I think you need to be a little more specific? Type and dose of Magnesium tablet? How did it affect you badly?
If it gave you diarrhoea then either the dose was too high or the type of magnesium didn’t suit you or you didn’t need it - there is always a problem with absorbing oral magnesium so it often goes straight through. I can’t tolerate even the tiniest bit of oral mag, which is why I use the muscle spray applied directly to skin when ever I feel I need to - which is usually when I start getting symptoms such as muscle cramping.
hello CDreamer , sorry I left some details out 😊, I can’t really remember as it was a while ago but I remember feeling really awful, nausea, fevers, belly aches and as soon as I can off them I was ok. I used the spray in the hope it would calm the heart but kept getting belly aches and used the loo a bit more . It could in the mind because of what happened the last time.
Magnesium citrate used to make my stomach sore and it took years to find out that was the cause. I now take magnesium glycinate capsules from YourSupplements online, which were recommended to me by another member on this forum, no problems now.
I'm feeling better than I have for years now, thanks. Not sure if it's because of the strong double meds I took to get rid of the covid and pneumonia, or coming off Flecainide after taking it for years.
Very little magnesium is absorbed from any form, and the excess is excreted unchanged via the intestines. In large enough doses it acts here as a laxative, drawing in water and causing the bowel to empty, and sometimes causing gurgling and tummy along the way. I'm surprised there's enough of it in a spray, but I am guessing that there must be excess and that is what you are experiencing?
It's a very safe nutrient since any excess is excreted. There's no evidence that I can find that it does anything for the heart but many do swear by it so it's worth a trial.
hi ,magnesium oil is taken transdermally meaning through the skin and doesnt go through the digestive system , so it would be hard to imagine it causing belly aches, maybe you are a one off in this case, have you ruled out everything else.
Well, I found recommended dose of a magnesium compound too much for my stomach orally so quartered that and used the Mg spray for top up; I then suspected the latter was affecting my sleep so stopped the spray. For me the spray was no problem for the stomach so I suspect it might be your mind playing tricks. However, the bottom line is if it doesn't work for you, reduce or stop your dosage and move on as we are all different.
