Medicines after cryoablation

Has anyone had cryroablation for AFIB then gotten off meds prior to procedure?

My procedure was 2 years ago and I am still on all meds prior to procedure.

I have had no episode of AFIB in 12 months.

I had RF ablation and eventually after my third stopped rhythm meds after about nine months. Never going to stop anticoagulation of course. After eleven years back on meds for another arrhythmia by heh ho I had some good times.

I had a Cryoablation 5 years ago followed by an RF ablation and I still take Diltiazem as I did before. Generally, side effects are minimal and it does help reduce blood pressure so I haven’t been in a rush to stop. I have also had some thyroid treatment which may help to control AF but I’m not going to consider reducing medication until Coronavirus gets controlled. Although I only score 1 on CHAds, I would not seek to stop anticoagulation.

I had a PVI and CTI ablation (I forget which one was the Cryo and which one was heat), with a full EP study and while he was in there he zapped my ectopic beats and my flutter. Apparently my hearts electrics were so erratic it’s a wonder I was pumping any blood. Doc took me off flecanide and others prior to precedure but left me on the coagulation obviously and following procedure has taken me off all meds including edoxaban. I am 41 and suffered a heart attack so that may be a significant difference here but I am hopeful to stay off meds as long as possible. Realistically I will go back on the meds at some point, but I live in hope I can escape it as long as poss.

10 years ago, I had 2 AFIB ablations in 2011. Afterwards, I went normal sinus without meds up until AUG 2020, when AFIB returned.

I went on Eliquis and Diltiazem for concurrent rapid ventricular rate. Later added Flecainide which kept AFIB away and also controlled the RVR, so I quite the Diltiazem.

Had an ablation On OCT 23. Was on Eliquis during the procedure and still on it. Flecainide was stopped around Christmas. I am currently wearing a Heart Monitor for 2 weeks.

I'll see my EP later this spring. They will do a procedure to see if my Left Atrial Appendage is functioning (after being ablated in OCT). If it is functioning ... they will check Atrium to see if any minor touchup ablation is needed. If it looks good ... probably get off Eliquis after a few months with NO AFIB and no further treatment necessary.

If the LAA is damaged and not functioning, then will have a Watchman Device installed in the Appendage during this shorter follow-up procedure. Hopefully AFIB free ... and eventually Eliquis free (and off all meds) going into the future. That's the plan.

I had an ablation on 18 of November 2020 it was rf but I don’t think that makes a big difference compared to cryo.

The week before I was on 100 Mg flec twice a day and 6.25 Mg bisoprolol with digoxin ( small dose) and my anticoagulant apixoban.

Immediately after ( the 19 Nov) I went to apixoban only and have been there ever since . To be fair 6 weeks after I had a sort of fast and shaky heart rate one evening and took 2.5 Mg of bisoprolol as a pip but that is all

One think my HR is still, 3 months later higher than it was it is 65-75 resting as opposed to 50-60 before when not in afib but I’m ok with that

I think everyone is different, but I spoke to my cardiologist last Saturday who has put me on his list now for my first cryo ablation. He said that I will be able to stop taking Sotalol afterwards, but stay on Riberoxyban. That's really good news to me. Maybe speak to your cardiologist to ask the reason that you are still on your medication. It could just be a communication breakdown. Good luck.

I was taking Amiodarone, Metropolol, and Eliquis prior to my cryoablation in 2018. Then I was taken off of Amiodarone slowly. I continue to take Eliquis and Metropolol (small dose). So yes you may be taking your meds after your procedure but I'm sure they are evaluating when you can come off of some of them. I hope this helps.

I am 15 months post-cryoablation and stopped all meds the day of my procedure. I have had no AF.
