COVID and AFIB...... BA5 finally got me...

Can AFIB patients (permanent for me)take the COVID drug Paxlovid? I worked so hard to avoid it but the BA5 variant got me. How have others with AFIB faired with COVID? Particularly the recent variants (that tend to be less severe). Symptoms, progression each day, length of time with symptoms? Pretty nervous about it honestly. Thanks so much.

I got covid about 6 weeks ago. I had fever for the first 12 hours only, but a major headache for 3 days. Once the headache went, I lost my sense of smell for 1 week, which leads me to think it was BA5. I didn't want to use Paxlovid, due to its potential rebound effect (as experienced by Dr Fauci and most recently by President Biden in the US), but I did up my intake of vits C and D, Zinc and Quercetin. I tested negative after 4 days, though I was tired for a week afterwards.

Oh dear dear ,how did you manage to catch the dreaded ba5, how did you fair with this deadly variation, did you nearly die with it ? I live in complete terror of catching the ba5. You have managed to get 3 or 4 boosters ? When will a fifth be available??? I may end up just locking myself away forever .take extreme care don't let your guard down ever kfc2022.

I would advice those who have dropped their guard (not you obviously) thinking or hearing via social media or news that it’s “just like a cold or mild flu” it’s not. Hospitals are just starting to see ICU numbers taper off, and friends who have been triple jabbed and otherwise healthy tell me it is still pretty brutal…and fall is on the way, so stay safe. It’s out there…in the malls, shops, theatres, so mask up.

I believe there is quite an extensive list of medications that Paxlovid should not be taken with. It is doubtful whether it actually works very well in vaccinated people as the clinical trials were all done on the unvaccinated. The rebound problem seems common.

I am in Spain and prior to leaving I asked my GP if I could have a course of Paxlovid in the event I got Covid whilst away; the next thing the nearest centre rang me and a very nice doctor told me that the drug is only supplied to actual sufferers, not 'in case'. I was worried as I finished extensive cancer treatment just over four months ago. Well, sure enough last week my husband and I both tested positive and we were fortunate that we both had it quite mildly. I don't know what variant we had but I do know there was a question mark over taking Paxlovid (had I needed it) and Apixaban. I had my last booster in April.

Hi Irene. My good friend cuthbert got the 7th variation of this killer version , he did not get any symptoms at all , he told me he would not wish this covid variant on enyone as he was totally confused by it .Good luck and stay very very very safe .

No! I am not in the high risk category and I don't even think about it. I must admit I was surprised that we caught Covid as we are always ultra-careful but in the event I am thankful neither of us was really unwell.

The new variant is generally less severe but far from merely a “cold”, as fever and fatigue are common symptoms. An elderly friend in hospital was symptomless with it till one night… fever and pneumonia. Another, younger, coughed so much he developed two hernia and it upsets his thyroid; his wife got pleurisy after the weeks of it. Our 4-year-old grandson tested positive for over a week and had a sustained high fever; his dad got off quite lightly but mum was poorly for a few days.

No Pax for me, no big deal either. I had Omicron, lost my smell and taste, but also had remedies on hand - all from my local pharmacy. Vit C & D, zinc & its companion Quercetin, oil of oregano, nasal rinse. Be proactive and be thankful if you acquire a little natural immunity. Best wishes.
