Hi all . . . any and all opinions appreciated . . . on 3 Nov 2021 I underwent cryoablation and a treatment of atrial flutter and paroxysmal AFIB. My 7 day wait period went GREAT, until the morning of Wed 10 Nov, I threw my lower back out. Naturally as many of you know I’m sure, you're discouraged form taking ANY anti-inflam drug in the blanking period either for triggering afib, or for additional bleeding issues since I’m on Eliquis for 90 days. My doc office said a Medrol steroid (which would really help me w pain) COULD trigger afib, not that it WOULD. Does anyone have thoughts on if I should avoid the Medrol steroid altogether, or take it? Not looking for medical advice, just thoughts . . .

Medrol Steroid POST-cryoablation
I am sorry I can't give advice on the particular steroid your doctor is recommending but I am on steroids for different reasons (Dexamethasone) and it hasn't made a noticeable difference to my AF at all.
What bad luck putting your back out during your recovery time, hope you get some relief and your recovery goes well.
Irene, I so appreciate the reply and knowing I’m not alone. I’m writing this on Sunday am, 14 Nov. The acute discomfort is gone, but soreness from inflammation still present. I’m trying to stay strong as I want to stay as “medically afib trigger clean” as possible during the blanking period; but I confess, initially on Wednesday without anti-inflammatories like Motrin? It was agony. I cried getting out of bed last Thursday am that’s how awful it was. The ablation in comparison was a walk in the park. You made my day by replying.
Irene, Medrol is a 6-day, 4mg each dose of prednisolone - anti-inflammatory. Prescribed, obviously. Having used them a small handful of times before, I know from experience they work. But again - blanking period and trying to stay clean/strong. I think I’m on the mend. Just slowww
I’d like to ask you something . . . How was flecainide? I’m so glad to see you use it only when necessary now (is that PiP?) My doctor had prescribed it, but i didn't want to be on a lifetime medication.
And how is your granddaughter? ❤️ Congratulations
Just take it very easy! Glad to hear you are on the mend.
Flecainide works every time for me. I did start to take 100mg daily as my AF episodes became very frequent, but my heart has calmed down so I have gone back to using it as a PiP and I feel much happier about that. 600mg in a year as opposed to 36,500 mg!
Thank you, my granddaughter is thriving and a gorgeous happy baby holding her own amongst two brothers and two boy cousins - we joke she is going to lead them all!
Get yourself to a chiropractor and get yourself sorted out so you don't need to take any medication, SanMan
Hey Racquet! Believe me my friend - big believer in a great chiropractor. I had to wait for the acute pain to subside first, though. Thankfully it has, but I’m planning to see him Thursday the 19th. I, too, am a big fitness buff (I’m an ACE certified personal trainer outside of my full time profession). May I ask at what age your afib started (oh wait, I see 77)? Have you ‘de-trained’ as part of your lifestyle changes to manage it? I’ve been told I need to workout less, which is definitely true the more I look back at my fitness past. Too much intensity for my age.
