2.4% Burden 3 months post cryoablation...

Had my 3 month review yesterday and while the burden of AFIB is less my EP deemed it a failure! My symptoms are very mild and I feel great but for the few episodes that come and go and even then it is very different than pre ablation. We will reevaluate and do another 2 week monitor in 8 weeks and base a decision whether to touch up then. Only 2 veins were done initially due to a phrenic nerve issue... Any thoughts from my very respected friends on this forum?

I’m sure you have read it many times in the forum missy, that the balloon used in a Cryoablation can miss tissue if the pulmonary veins are irregular in shape. This is what happened in my case and I opted for a second RF ablation some 4 months ago and so far, so good. If your EP is suggesting that it’s a failure so soon, that is probably because he knows some errant tissue was missed.....

Thanks Flapjack. How long after your first cryo did you do the RF?

Were you having a lot of AFIB episodes during this 2 year span; many thanks Flapjack.

Very little for 15 months then around 6 episodes which gradually became more regular.....

Thanks for your response Nanabrodie; did you have cryoablation first and fr second under GA or sedation?

Yes cryoablation first and had both under GA. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again if need be but fingers crossed if and when it returns it won’t be for a long time

I hope so for you too, Nanabrodie! Thanks for sharing with me. My EP prefers sedation for the RF second ablation so we will see.........

Wondering what your phrenic nerve complication was, if you mind, and how it was resolved. They partially froze mine about a month ago and I am still in the wait and see time period.

Hi Potter22,

It is my understanding that as the balloon inflated one of my veins was no straight and thus the phrenic nerve was nicked so the full procedure was stopped. I spoke with my Dr yesterday and it is clear that we need to go back in to try and "finish the job" with the hope that I will be free of all symptoms. This is such a difficult condition...Hoping you are healing well and after your wait and see period you will be free of episodes. Are you feeling well now? How long ago was your procedure?
