Cough medicine

I have asthma and paroxysmal a fib. Came down with some kind of a bug and I have sinus congestion, coughing fits with a lot of clear mucous , did have fever but gone now. Feeling better besides cough. Dr. Ordered. Z pack , steroids and bromfed dm which has pseudoephedrine which can cause a fib. Can anyone recommend something that they have taken in the past that they have been successful with ? This cough is driving me nuts. Thank you all in advance !

I avoid all cough mixtures and try use natural remedies, cider vinegar as John suggests and steam which helps clear mucous, daily nasal rinses which is what my doctors suggested as well as suppressing the cough as it makes the mucous worse.

After a year of suffering mucous cough - chest x-ray and no discoverable reason for continual mucous cough I was prescribed a steroid nasal spray - miraculous - no coughing now but it took 6 weeks to clear and I’m going to have to continue what I’m doing as soon as I stop, cough from nasal drip returns.

You need to treat the cause not the symptom.

Sorry, even when I had Covid, I only took Tylenol -- was afraid of anything else triggering a-fib. Flonase for stuffed nose would even trigger an attack for me.
