Perindopril cough

Hi, Have been taking this medication for 3 months after being diagnosed with heart failure and Atrial Fibrillation for which i had cardioversion on 10th August. I have had dry tickly cough which is driving me mad and waking me up at night, I know this a side effect of this medication, and wondered if any one had any idea how to deal with it ,or which other alternative medication they have found not to have this problem. Am still waiting cardiologist follow up following cardioverson and as he prescribed meds don't see the point of seeing Gp,as he will probably say to wait for the appointment. ( have also posted this on BHF page)

Coreg, a beta blocker, makes me cough also; I have found taking B12 (pill and/or liquid) helps.

I had the same with ramapril i think all prils have the same. Spoke to go who changed it but I didn't have af then. I am sure they will sort it out for you. Best wishes.

Ramipril definitely caused a similar, annoying cough for me, my cardio consultant has now switched me to candestartan and cough has gone. Your GP may be prepared to arrange this or similar for you, it's a recognised side effect.

Yes, as the others say, your GP may well change your medication. The annoying cough is a well known side effect of the -prils and medications ending -artan can be an alternative. They are more expensive, so GPs in the NHS start with the cheaper option and see if patients have a problem.

I also had problems with Ramipril and tried 5 different drugs before I found one that suited me.I am sure the Dr thought I was imagining it but I stuck to my guns. Candesartan was one I took and had no effect good or otherwise.

I was eventually given Ibersartan which suits me and also lowers my BP.

Best of luck. Jo

I have been taking 4mg of Perindopril daily for the past 10 years for High Blood Pressure, with no side effects, of course it may affect different people in different ways,

If it was me I would give it a little more time and

see if dry cough improves.

I have the Ramapril cough but Ramapril got my EF up so I’m sticking with it. I make sure I am well hydrated, have something to suck, not get stuck in line of air conditioning and talk less. The last one I’m still working on.

I have been on perindopril for 8+ years but after the BMJ released its study I became alarmed as my mother died of lung cancer - so I switched to Telmisaton .
