Afib meds and estradiol

I was diagnosed with Afib about 2 years ago. I take Sotalol and Xeralto. My PCP wants me to go off my estradiol but I still need my estrogen because I tried a half dose and got all the stupid symptoms back like face and hair sweating, night sweats and mood swings. She was trying to ween me off my estradiol but I had those symptoms even at half dose and went back on it ignoring her since my cardiologist never told me it was bad. I have hearing aids so sweating is not good for hearing aids. My Cardiologist never told me there was a problem taking my estrogen with my Afib. Why should my PCP push me to give it up? I also take Clonazepam for anxiety and Armour thyroid because I was born without a thyroid gland.

Hi SalemS - stick with the Estrodiol! I have been on HRT since my late 40's and I'm convinced it's the reason why my AF hasn't been as troublesome as it could have been. I have been using the Estrodiol gel plus Mirena coil (progesterone to protect the womb) for about 9 years now. One of Sanjay Gupta's videos actually talks about Estrogen and the heart.

Like you, whenever I have to see medical people/cardiologist about anything i tell them my other medications plus HRT and so far - fingers crossed - nobody seems concerned.

If you type in Sanjay Gupta YouTube you should find the one about Estrogen. There might be an easier way to find it but that's how I would do it.

Hope that's helpful and good luck. Patxx

I would be more concerned about the Armour. The ratio of T4 to T3 in Armour is for pigs and different to ours. It can result in too much T3 which can definitely provoke afib. Is your free T3 out of range?

My gynecologist wants me to start weaning down on my dose of estradiol and my EP said not now. I have only been diagnosed with AF for 8 months and the EP does not want to throw in any other variables until my AF is well controlled. My gynecologist is concerned that hormones need to be taken at the lowest dose for the least amount of time and I have been taking estradiol for about 5 or 6 years now. I am only 52, but I guess taking hormones after age 55 or 60 is a no-no for heart health. I am also concerned that if I have to wean down or off the estradiol, the hot flashes and night sweats that I had so profusely, would trigger my AF constantly. I say, stand your ground and get the cardiologist on your side. You already tried to wean down and it was unsuccessful. Give it another year or two and try to wean off again, if your cardiologist okays it.
