Hi there, sorry to hear that you are having a bad time, I had the same symptoms last year before my ablation. I just stayed in bed and took paracetamol to keep my fever under control. Not a good week though so I feel for you. My recent man flu 2 weeks ago was controlled with lemon juice and honey as well as paracetamol, I had no heart issues thankfully. Best wishes to you and I hope you feel better soon ✋

A thousand sympathies - I’m in very slow recovery from an awful stinker of a cold and I agree with djbgatekeeper - paracetamol, warm fluids and rest (bed if you can) and plenty of pampering!

Make sure to avoid commercial cough remedies as they can irritate the heart - Covonia being one of the worst. I used honey, lemon, ginger, Friar’s Balsam and eucalyptus oil at various times to ease breathing and sore throat. Your heart is reacting to the stress of your body’s fight with the cold, so give it all the help you can and take it easy.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yes any bug, virus, upset stomach and the like bring on ectopics, pauses and fast heart rate for me. Horrible sensations. Hope your cold eases soon and things heart wise settle down for you again. Keep away from over the counter cough and cold medicines they are demons for triggering an upset heart for us afibbers.

Thank you meadfoot , I was a little worried about it as I’m 3 months post afib ablation it’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one . Thank you for your advice . Keep well . Best wishes.

Hi there, I am battling the flu and have been getting a lot more irregular beatsthan normal. My cardio says they are pvcs and my last 24-hour heart monitor monitor also showed non-sustained vt beats. I have mild coronary artery disease with daily arrhythmias as my ony symptom, although I have had them on occasion most of my life and this runs in my family. I read recently that our body secretes an agent to help fight infection and this can cause irregular heartbeats. I’d rather deal with anything else than ‘the beats,’ but I just have to cope the best I can. Hope yours subside soon.

I’m 3 months post ablation. Sorry to hear your having a rough time . I’m so glad I found this site and talk to people that understand. I hope you feel better soon all the best .

Yes just over Christmas I caught flu and ended up in hospital with an attack of Afib. My discharge letter said it was caused through a flu virus and coughing spasms. Honey and lemon and stay in bed and take it easy might have been the answer, but it was Christmas and new year and family here. All the best

If you are getting dehydrated, that can lead to ectopics and runs. Be sure to stay hydrated, What I use to treat a cold (be sure meds that are ok by your physician):

Drink a lot of water!!

Gaia brand elderberry syrup, homemade chicken noodle soup, orange juice and I take vitamin C 1000 mg/day too.

Over the counter basic allegra or Claritin (I don't get the behind the counter pharmacy Allegra "D" or Claritin "D" as it has pseudophedrine in it and that is a stimulant.) Also use saline nasal spray to clear sinus of mucas several times a day and a nasal inhaler vicks type tube.

I hope you are feeling better soon!

I'm going through exactly the same as you at present. Heavy cold and cough, sore throat and pounding headache. And a surge in ectopics. I'm sort of relieved, after reading your post, that the increase in ectopics is related to the cold virus.
